Sleep apnea and high Cholesterol
I have been fighting high cholesterol for 5 years my heart doctor was confused as too why my cholesterol wasn't coming down last summer I had a sleep apnea test found out i had severe sleep apnea over 300 episodes per night anyway I opted for the mouth guard to keep my tongue from falling back in my throat started using it in August didn't really notice much in the sleep but just had my 6 month blood test 5 out of 6 cholesterol numbers went back to normal we just about fell over wondering why and my A1C dropped back into normal range? through research I've found that when the brain is starved for oxygen it tells the liver to make more cholesterol so if your numbers are not falling with statins get tested for sleep apnea.

Hello @mdamiani57 - Thanks for starting this discussion. Looking back a few years after being diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, I think it may have helped lower my cholesterol numbers when I started using a CPAP. For others also interested I thought I would share this Medical News Today article:

2 ReactionsThe same thing happened to me. My cholesterol and triglycerides were very high for over 15 years. Within 1 year of using CPAP my cholesterol was within normal limits and triglycerides were only slightly elevated. My siblings had similar results, as sleep apnea runs in the family.
