Skin problem and blow outs on bag edge
I am almost 6 months out of surgery. I have a rash around the stomach area where bag adheres to skin. Any suggestions?
Also. My stool seems to collect at the stoma and eventually pushes thru the seal of the bag. Any suggestions? I started using the lubricant and it seems to help. Trying to firm up stool as well. Thank you

@lrandall51 Turtle head...that's exactly what I have. It's not very big to begin with and sometimes it seems to basically disappear. Actually it drives me batty sometimes. And when it retracts almost out of existence, that's when leaking can occur. Aarrggh!!!
Does anyone have a protruding lump at stoma sight? Like where the cut and loop is inside but pushes stomach out!? My stoma does not lay flat. Wondered if anyone else has thar
I too started having the problem and I experimented with several things to get it where it should be.
I have a2 piece. One being the wafer. With the wafer comes a paper where you match up best size to fit over the stoma.
That way when you put it down on stoma you will cut the right size.
Sizing helps not to overload.
Next before putting wafer down .. if your stoma is clean dust the area with stoma powder and take the bag that is attaching to the wafer and around the rim of the bag lightly run stoma paste. Put the wafer and bag together and paste should cement and hold together.
If you have like I do a fold in my skin you will ; you will place securely over stoma the wafer and bag in place and attach it to your skin.
For added protection I use a barrier extender on my right side of my
Bag/wafer. It will keep stuff from pushing through the bag.
Look up utube. They show you how to do things step by step.
I do hope this helps you.
@angeleyes777fun I'm glad that works for you. I do mine very differently and have little problem with leakage really. Yesterday I changed mt flange after 14 days. It seems that there are so many different pathways to take that in the end it's all completely individualistic.
I was wondering if any colostomy patients have a mound in their belly around stoma? I had surgery a year ago and it’s annoying to have that area raised
It’s where my cut and loop is. I wondered if anyone had a flat area around their stoma
thanks!
I get this when I pancake and don't take the time to push it down further in the bag, then my bag pushes off. Pancaking is a pisser and I have it often, If I can keep some air in the bag then I can usually push it down but sometimes my stoma sucks the air back up into my body then I have to open the bag to put air back in.. My stoma doesn't change size sometimes it will get red and feel like it isn't letting anything pass but usually I have pudding consistency. So I have to watch when if is pancaking around my stoma so that it doesn't get between the flange and my skin and push my flange off.
@lrandall51 I think the area around my stoma is at the exact same height as my stomach. I wouldn't call it flat exactly but then I don't exactly have a youthful figure at 84.
If your area is raised, perhaps you might try one of those appliances designed for that. I know Coloplast makes a concave one with a sort of flower shape around the outside. They will send you free samples to try. But then no doubt you probably are aware of all of that.
@lrandall51 Yes I do have a mound on the side that has the stoma The other side is flatter I use a Coloplast Mio light convex flower shaped appliance and it works well for me I use a one piece disposable unit but it does come in two piece The number on mine is 18171
