Skin irritation around the stoma

Posted by pidge32 @pidge32, 6 days ago

Has/had anyone had severe skin irritation around the stoma that you just can’t get to heal? I’m using the powder as advised but it doesn’t seem to be helping all that much. It’s quite painful at times.
Any suggestions?

@piki I've applied the eakins both ways, on my skin, and pre applied to the appliance. I sort of go back and forth.

I use the stoma wrap. I tear it in half , and shape it into a ring or strip. It's been working really well for me!

@susanf8 Does this mean you use one Eakin StomaWrap for two separate occasions?

@piki Yes, I divide it in half and use half for each change. I roll lengthwise so it's twice as thick.

One thing that's helped me at times with mild irritation is Flonase (generic is fine), sprayed around the stoma and allowed to dry. As the stoma nurse here explained, it's a very mild steroid and can help with skin irritation.

I have also used the flonase even just for itching I sometimes get and for a rash once
