Best Shower heads for MAC

Posted by kathyhg @kathyhg, Mar 18, 2019

I've been reading about shower heads and it seems that many are bad for growing bacteria. One mentioned on another forum was called The Original Chrome Shower Head by Shower Clear. It is very expensive and wondering if anyone has experience with this or others that might be good.
Thanks,

@lilianna

Bayarea58what company did you use for testing water?

@lilianna we used one referenced by other patients: https://mytapscore.com/

We were not successful in finding other (cheaper) options, at least none that tested to species level which was important to me.

Many thanks for this post. So helpful! Can you please share the name of your water-resistant mask? I am so thin—97-98 pounds with an especially thin upper body and I can barely tolerate a cool shower, especially when washing my hair. I dread going in there now and a mask would allow me to take a warmer shower. All your text about the lesser steam with no shower head is super interesting. 💛

@paxmundi this is the mask I am currently using: HALYARD FLUIDSHIELD N95 Respirators, ASTM Level 3 Face Mask, Regular Size, Orange, 46727 (Box of 35), through Amazon.

There are many different model/styles, but what you are looking for is a fluid resistant surgical n-95. If you google the subject you will find plenty of info on them.

Now, fluid resistant is not waterproof. I am not sticking my face/mask in the flow of water. I am very careful washing my hair which is a challenge with the mask straps but not undoable. I have heard some people alter the straps of their n-95 to wear around their ears but have read this compromises the fit so I just work around the straps on my head. Because I have removed my waterhead the flow of water is very narrow and its easy to keep the water off my face when washing my hair. All in all very doable, and super easy for a quick in-and-out when not washing hair.

I heard of someone using a mask that had like a plastic shield that went over the front, over the filter. see envomask.com. It looked interesting and something I may investigate in the future, especially for traveling, it has an ear loop version which would make washing hair easier. But at the present moment I am still getting adjusted to all the cleaning and sterilizing that needs to be done on daily, weekly, monthly basis and so would prefer a disposable mask option for now.

It will still have all kinds of deadly bugs - pseudomonas, achromobacter, stenotrophomonas maltophilia (sp)... I could go on. Make sure you use a .2 micron filter. Any standing water in a storage situation or even if it just goes through the tankless heater, it is not hot enough long enough (10 minutes boiling plus 1 minute for each 1000 feet) to kill these pathogens.

@beejenigma interesting, I am a relative newbie and have been focused on my NTM infection but I see your point -- lots of bugs to be careful about.

Thank you. Was this price for all points or per one point of testing

@lilianna it was about $500 per sample. So for our three testing locations it was just shy of $1,500. Pricey for sure.

Thank you kindly for your detailed response. I am also trying to navigate my life with all the adjustments and purchases, and new disciplines, and sterilizations. It's endless, but necessary. But like any new discipline, after a while I hope I'll hit my stride. It's a big financial hit as well! Every day I give thanks for the proactive, knowledgeable, and generous people on this site, you among them!
