Considering Shoulder Replacement due to Osteoarthritis

I'm considering having a shoulder replacement due to osteoarthritis. I've tried PT, but my range of motion is very limited. I'm 78 so worry about it getting worse and affecting my quality of life. Anybody have any comments or suggestions regarding the procedure?

I had reverse shoulder replacement 6 weeks ago due to osteoarthritis. I was in a great deal of pain and limited mobility before my surgery. After surgery I was in less pain than before surgery and my recovery has been going very well. I am going to Physical therapy once a week and do my exercises at home. I am doing a lot of things that I couldn’t do before surgery. I’m right handed and had my right shoulder replaced. I did need help with some things, but my husband helped me. I can get dressed myself now, just can’t do very well drying and styling my hair.

I'm happy your shoulder replacement is going well. I'm 71 and had an anatomical TSR 9 months ago - for the same reason, osteoarthritis. I feel great now and pain free.

I'm curious though why you had a reverse replacement. Those are necessary when a rotator cuff muscles can't be repaired via surgery. Of course a damaged rotator cuff muscle and osteoarthritis can exist simultaneously.

I had reverse shoulder replacement 6 weeks ago due to osteoarthritis. I was in a great deal of pain and limited mobility before my surgery. I also had a reverse shoulder replacement done on left side. It went so well I had another reverse shoulder replacement done on right side 7 months later. Had severe Osteoarthritis in both shoulders with rotator cuff tears which is why they did a reverse replacement. It's now been a year since my second replacement and it's gone so well. I wonder why it took me so long to get them done. No more pain, wonderful range of motion and I'm so happy with them. Same Dr and same Physical therapist for both shoulders. Good luck with making that decision to get it done.

Im 71 and have issues with Osteoarthritis all over. Knees, hips hands. Had my knees done 12 yrs ago but sustained a rupture of my left quad tendon, so I rely on a walker due to weakness. It made my shoulder recoverys a little challenging as I couldn't use my walker for a number of months after each as it would put stress on my new shoulders. It's now a year after my second shoulder and all is going well!
