@woojr Just one last thought, I felt a lot better when I was 71. Really, and that was when my mother was getting scammed, blaming all her woes on me getting the police involved. That was really difficult. She's tough, still drives, has no respect for risks. Which leads to trusting everyone.

Hi John,

Thanks for the advice on RMDs. Schwab is a very good company, I've worked with them in the past. I don't have an excuse for not understanding RMDs. I very briefly worked as a CPA for 5 years after college (long enough to officially get a CPA designation). But I hated the work. Ended up in management consulting, got to see a lot of the world, and retired at 62. No kids.

Your kids sound like a handful, with the exception of your middle daughter. Being in the middle of three boys, I have a special fondness for middle kids, who often get lost. My parents weren't abusive, they just treated me like I wasn't there. While my early struggles with depression and anxiety were horrible because I felt abandoned, I had a lot of freedom. My parents let me take the car on Friday night a long as I had it back Sunday. I did and had a lot of adventures.

I think I can understand the stress that parenting creates, especially with your story. And that was complicated by your first daughter and youngest son (I think I have the order right). I'm glad you have connected with your middle child. As a middle child, that makes me feel good.

Your writing is excellent. That's usually true of people who read a lot. And I type these replies pretty quickly and usually don't edit. The message gets across.

I hope any problems you had with anxiety are behind you. Sounds like your wife is supportive, so is mine and that really helps.

Hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving John! Great to meet you.

Joe

@heyjoe415 I didn't mean to imply I knew much about RMD's, just that Schwab is pretty good at helping me navigate their site. I've pretty much put anxiety behind me. I think having physical problems trumps mental as we age. One thing that was helpful from my mental history was I had to appeal my Social Security Disability claim. When they checked up on me I simply told them they were making my life intolerable and I'd like to discuss it with their supervisor. They didn't call back and my appeal was approved quickly. I passed this on to others I knew and they did okay. It was a long time ago, all those benefits have been either ended or cut drastically. Kind of makes me picture the AI world to come and where humans fit in, if they do. Off to put up the Christmas tree. Same one since 1983. It's been a challenge keeping the lights lit. There's over a thousand and they were woven into the branches. It was a floor display model from Macy's at a new mall in Delaware. The sales tax free state across the bridge. It's also been the better option to medical care than here in S Jersey.

Wishing you the best as well.... John

That's ok John, I understood your meaning on RMDs.

Good local healthcare is extremely important. We're fortunate in WI to have a number of great hospital systems, among them Froedert/Medical College of WI.

Froedert is a research hospital, and works with the Medical College in Madison to implement new techniques, medical equipment, and on. Froedert also has very high admission standards for their orthopedic group. I've used them for all mod my joint replacements - knees, right hip, left shoulder.

I research the surgeons carefully, and to a fault, these people are among the best ortho surgeons in the country.

We also had very high quality care when we lived in Northern California through John Muir.
