Should I get a 2nd Opinion on my MRI

Posted by bellyflop33 @bellyflop33, Sep 20, 2022

Had an MRI yesterday. The results were a 12 mm focus of bright signal on the FLAIR and T2-weighted images at the anterior aspect of the left temporal lobe. Dr. suggested another MRI in 4 months. Not sure if I should wait another 4 months. Any thoughts and thank you in advance?

Symptoms/reasons for MRI include: short term memory issues getter worse over the last couple of years and headaches/dizziness/nausea and some vision issues over the last year. Headaches are daily now, and just feel like someone is squeezing my head. Similar to how I felt in 2003 when I had West Nile.

I do IT/programming so it is rather annoying to work.

Hi @bellyflop33, if you would like to get a second opinion from Mayo experts, you may consider requesting an appointment to review the testing done to date. Here's how to submit a request: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

What diagnosis is being investigated? What has been ruled out? Did you have other tests besides the MRI?
Also, did your doctor have any suggestions about managing the symptoms in the meantime?

No diagnosis is being investigated, or ruled out that I know of. Got the results via the hospital website and a message from the Dr. via message about redoing the MRI in 4 months. Not impressed with this Neurologist so far. I asked a question about the headaches and other things and have not yet received an answer.

Have you been tested for SS? Some SS suffers have similar symptoms. If you have a dural leak you must get it located and fixed. Mayo Clinic Minnesota is the best. Dr. Kumar and Dr. Marsh. I hope and pray the best for you.

Morning, a second opinion now a days is a must. If you don’t live near any Mayo Clinic’s I would search out my closest largest city and get an opinion. It never hurts. Now a days I think it’s a given. Best of luck.

@steveginstead. What is SS?

@bellyflop33 I agree with @colleenyoung. The symptoms you are experiencing is why you saw the neurologist and these are affecting your life, especially your work life. Do you have another appointment scheduled with the neurologist to go over the results and to talk again about how to relieve these symptoms?

Another opinion is a good idea. That's what I would do if I wasn't getting the answers I wanted. Since the symptoms are short-term memory, visual, and headaches I'd like to suggest that you get your second opinion from a neurologist who specializes in cognition sometimes referred to as behavioral neurology.

SS is superficial siderosis. Google that. Siderosis will be underlined in red as if you misspelled it. Just keep going. SS is so uncommon. Again, Mayo Clinic Minnesota is the best in Dr. Kumar and Dr. Marsh. Please don’t consult anyone that doesn’t know about SS, they will miss lead you. If you do have SS, and I hope and pray that you don’t, and you don’t get it fixed you will be in deep trouble. I was told that if I don’t get my leak fixed that “soon I would be completely deaf and not able to get out of the bed to go to the bathroom.” Serious.

For years and years no-one thought it was important to tell me that an arachnoid cyst was showing up on my scans. Only recently did I realize that I have a cyst that may well be responsible for years of feeling like "someone is squeezing my head", as well as multiple other symptoms. So I say yes, act quickly to find someone who understands the significance of what the scan shows.

Good luck, and be willing to push hard on this.

@bellyflop33 How are you feeling today? Have you decided to get another opinion and where you will go for that?
