New Post-COVID Symptom: Shortness of Breath during Sleep
Hi! I have a new symptom that is scaring me quite a bit. My shortness of breath has gotten worse at night. Once I'm able to fall asleep, I wake up gasping for air multiple times throughout the night. My sleep quality has gotten much worse because of this. When I wake up, my heart rate sky rockets with the shortness of breath. Any tips? Anyone else experiencing this?

Have you tried being tested for Sleep Apnoea? I’ve had LC in Uk for 5+ years and first year often woke up gasping for air, bought a oximeter and found oxygen levels could be in 60s% and HR over 100. At that time difficult to get to see medics in person so bought a 48 hour test from a national charity….showed I only had mild SA, not treated here. Still get breathless and odd high HR during day, diagnosed as dysautonomia, but not so obvious at night…lungs and heart since then been scanned/ tested as ok! Early in LC had been put on 5 simultaneous anti hypertensives, including a beta blocker which I have since stopped but know it gave me very claustrophobic nightmares and have wondered whether that too gave me breathlessness and anxiety!
Hi, yes, as others have said, it's a common thing with Long COVID to have to have a sleep study done to test for apnea. I had one and am now on a CPAP. It definitely helps. Good luck talking with your doctor!
Have had hardly any taste buds for 6 months and insomnia been taking prescription sleeping pills but are becoming hard to get regularly.
Histamine Intolerance can cause SOB and irregular heart beats. It is worse at night and particularly towards morning.
The pressure is gettting worse also barely taste. Tried heating pad. Would Tylenol PM help. Blood pressure good. Seems like my head is going on circles at times but no pain. Thinking about Long Covid
I sure would check in with your doctor...Tylenol PM is just a pain reliever/fever reducer combined with the same ingredient as is in Benadryl. It might relieve the pressure in your head but you need to find out if you have a sinus infection as you might need meds to clear it up. Also try a good neti pot rinse of the sinus to see if that helps.
A sinus infection can affect your sense of taste..as can COVID. If it is Long COVID causing the loss of taste, there are some treatments that may help but you need to find a doctor who understands how to treat Long COVID.
