Shingrix and peripheral neuropathy

Posted by joannerhodes @joannerhodes, Feb 1, 2019

4 days after my 2nd Shingrix vaccination, I suddenly developed intense peripheral neuropathy in both feet...for the first time in my life...anyone else?

This is not true., The pharm company issued advisories about GBS, and has stated that the vaccine can trigger underlying conditions (including nerve issues). Docs and pharmacists are all aware of the dangers of this and other vaccines.

The only thing I was told by the pharmacist was that I would have a sore arm which would go away in a few days. I was told nothing else. I contacted the fda and the person I talked to said that the list of adverse side effects was inside the box that the the Shingrix vile was in. I was told absolutely nothing about worst case side effects. My Dr at the time did not divulge this information either. A list of ALL possible adverse reactions should be given to the person getting the vaccine, before hand. People should have to read it and sign that they understand. The list of all the adverse reactions should be given to them before the vaccination. Not after. I had to google search it because I put 2 and 2 together when my neuropathy started within days of receiving my 2nd Shingrix vaccine. If I had been warned in advance, I would NOT have gotten the Shingrix vaccine.

Hi, if anyone is interested in joining this facebook group, they are conducting a survey regarding severe Shingrix adverse reactions. It could lead to a study. I am a member of this group. They are looking for at least 200 people to join the survey.

Well my Dr didn’t warn me either but even if he had said neuropathy was a side effect I would not have known what it was anyway.
My life changed forever after my first shingles vaccination and I not only learnt what neuropathy was but small fibre neuropathy which I’m stuck with forever…
If only we knew it was going to have such huge effects on our health…
I was a healthy active 66 year old who bush walked for miles now I have a job to walk across the road…

It’s so awful. I was healthy too, hiked a lot and spend a lot of time outdoors with my 9 year old son, I am 52. It’s hard trying to keep up with my little boy. I wish we had known. 😔

My response is true - I was told more possibilities than you and I read the same in the insert. Please don't call me a liar. I live in Canada, I have had an adverse event which public health and pharm company is aware of. My doctor also told me (after the event) that these adverse events are possible. In Canada you get the shot from the pharmacist, who divulges the possible side effects through consent before you get the vaccine. I reported the adverse event to the pharmacist and my doctor who reported to public health and then to pharmacist. Sorry - U.S. is different than Canada it appears and you should be careful to not throw barbs based on your own experience. Just disclose your experience which is what I did

It appears that Canada discloses possible side effects through consent before you get the shot. It appears that your doc or pharmacist did not do this

I did not call you a liar. I only shared my experience. Not sure what you mean by throwing barbs. Sorry you took it that way. The pharmacist in my case only told me that I would have a sore arm for 3-4 days. She did not mention any other side effects to me at all. I did report to my Drs, pharmacist, Vaers and fda.
Anyways, I hope things go well for you. They never gave me an insert until I was leaving to go home.

I took it as barbs - sorry.

To be clear, in Canada when you get a vaccine you are asked for consent, because so many possible side effects are possible., Consent lists the possible side effective disclosed by the pharmacist (who provides the vaccine) which then comes from the pharm company insert I assume. The consent is key. It tells you what you might expect - and it all comes from the pharm company. If U.S. doesn't ask for consent, then whoever gave you the shot did wrong.
