Shingrix and peripheral neuropathy

Posted by joannerhodes @joannerhodes, Feb 1, 2019

4 days after my 2nd Shingrix vaccination, I suddenly developed intense peripheral neuropathy in both feet...for the first time in my life...anyone else?

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Neuropathy Support Group.

It seems I had the shingles shot then later my neuropathy was more severe. Nothing is working at this point. Only option left is the implant. The cons outweigh the pros with the implant, so I will probably stay with my current treatment which is pregabalin. It is better than nothing I guess.

Saw my new psychiatrist Dr today and I believe she is going to solve some of my concerns. Next step PT. One day at a time. When can I stop all the things that I did in the past? Been though a lot of trauma in my life. No support system do I have. Just trying to hold on. Thxs for listening.

Thanks for the Hug sure needed it 😊. Not much love going on in my life
anymore.

My interest are dealing with the aging process and body being unfamiliar,
don't know what to do ❓. PCP Dr doesn't have a clue. Hate reaching out with
her and known for over 30 years. Everybody Is all Up Tight these days.
Brought up trusting people who are supposed to be doctors, lawyers and
police officer, and the government. Ugh.

Being alone, hard for me. Lack of communication support and family members
friends whom has died or moved away. Living in new surroundings and the
rest will Follow.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Keep My Head!

Hello @joannerhodes. I am inviting @charann2000 to this conversation as they also have recently talked about having the shingrix vaccination.

@joannerhodes, neuropathy would certainly be a concerning side-effect, was this discussed as a potential side-effect with you when you were given the vaccination? Have you contacted your provider that gave the shot?

I was already diagnosed with polyneuropathy when my doctor recommended Shingrix. I had an extreme reaction to the first vaccine 4 days later, including worsened neuropathy, visual problems, blood pressure spikes, palpitations and gut problems. Some of these issues continued for over two months afterwards. Neuropathy is still exacerbated. My doctor recommended I see a psychiatrist. Instead, I found another doctor and filed an adverse event report with the CDC.

BTW, It is important not to feel defeated when faced with less than adequate healthcare and a sense that you can no longer rely on "professionals". The other difficult aspect of all of this is the tenuous nature of information sharing between medical professionals. I increasingly have the sense that our health system is like the old parable about the blind men and the elephant. But one must remain hopeful, and do a lot of homework.

At 66 years I thought I may need a shingles vaccine . Not long after I developed the first signs of short fiber neuropathy.
I am not diabetic alcoholic or a smoker . My diet is excellent I don’t have any vitamin deficiencies and all bloods are completely normal including heavy metals .. The markers all point to shingrix vaccine . There is nothing else to explain my current permanent debilitating condition .

I understand. Most of us do. It is very sad. No words will help.

You made me think, I have neuropathy and I had a shingles vaccination about 10 years. I know the vaccination was first, I can't remember how long after that my neuropathy started. It began in my feet, then my legs and now in my hands. I' m not diabetic, don't smoke, not a big drinker, have been on aa heart healthy diet 40 years and a low carb diet 50 years. My dad died at 65 from heart disease and my wife is a diabetic, low carb has been a natural part of my diet since we married 50 years ago.

Well I guess we will never know about these Vaccines. And I’m thinking the company would never admit liability not that we after anything …but in the end the incidents are so low we are on our own even if it was the vaccine for shingles. All the best to maintain a good quality of life. I still can’t believe there is no cure. Amazingly disappointing.
