@rooand - I have an education health and medical although I am not a medical professional, nurse or doctor but I have heard a few other tips to remain cognitive as we age:
* Stay on a regular sleep pattern
* Get out into the sunsine as soon as you can in the morning.
* Exercise - any kind of exercise can be worked into your daily lifestyle. For incstance, whenever I do my dishes at my kitchen sink, I take the time afterwards to do some back & neck stretches where you stand at the kitchen sink, e.g. countertop height area, putting your hands on the sink edge or countertop with your feet slightly apart then slowly take steps backwards and as you do drop your head beween your slowly extending arms where you're facing the floor when your arms are totally extended out infront of you. Hold and feel the stretch, then slowly walk toward the upright position again bringing yourself finally to the totally upward position. I do all the time. There are so many other simple exercises that can be worked into your daily routine.

Thanks for the viewers and the Mayo Clinic for this wonderful space where we can share idea!

Have a fantastic day!

Thanks Ruth!
Have to say too that I suffered a 'compression fracture' of my back years ago 1991 (31 yrs of age) where I came to a realization that staying active, any activity rather than simply sitting whether for work, or watching tv, etc. ....any activity is beneficial. And exercise after meals is imperative!

Another 'game changer' for me was in 2017, while working for Northwestern Mutual, Milwaukee, WI, in their new building, I discovered the benefits of 'desks that have the ability for the employee to raise and lower' their desks. I searched for this same option for my home office and found Versadesk.com where for approxiamtely $350, a 'desk riser' could be set atop of another existing desk giving you the same options, to 'raise' and 'lower' the the desktop that holds up to 40#s e.g. a computer terminal & laptop.

Just a thought for folks experiencing orthopedic issues that might be eleviated by the abililty to raise/lower the desk throughout their day.

One more thought...something that doesn't cost anything - turn on some good tunes (I like smooth jazz because there's no vocals) and dance, simply dance....move around.
Take a break in your busy day and listen to smooth jazz, or any music you like and move around, dance in your kitchen, livingroom, outdoors, just dance!

Thanks,
Patti

This is wonderful! Thanks for Lumosity.com free brain training exercises--I'll try it. Also helps to write down experiences and memories, especially for me but maybe someday for the next gen.

Doctor’s appointments and Webb and Email addresses, if in a written down format, that can be referred to without going to the vault (computer info.) is so useful because it is difficult remembering all those computer and phone security references!

Who can remember all the UNIQUE user IDs and passwords. I use a standard address book and enter info under the ABCs.....so if I need Apple ID/password it is under A, if Chase bank under C, if Ebay it's under E, Dr Welby under W and I leave enough space to enter if I need to reset passwords which seem to change periodically. I keep address book right next to my computer....This will also be a help if I suddenly leave this "mortal coil" so my family can access websites as needed. I seem to be able to remember the ones I use frequently, but for those once a year, it's a life saver.

For the past 3 years my husband has been having trouble remembering things we have talked about and also repeating himself. We have tried changing up medications; he exercises faithfully every day and stays active outside too, eats well, has type 2 diabetes with blood sugars well controlled. Last year at annual physical, his PCP ordered a vit D level. It was low!! We have started replacement and I am seeing a difference in just a weeks' time!
I don't know if this will help anyone else, but certainly isn't too expensive to have the lab test done. Grateful for the forum where I learn SO much!

Note to self to check Vitamin D! Thanks. Hope he continues to improve.

Great idea's. We are not always on top of things but..when word retrival does not come it is so embarassing. Since the pandemic I have seen younger people dealing with this as well. Thx.
