Severe rash with uncontrollable itching

Posted by vic60 @vic60, Mar 29 10:17am

Problem started about 6 months ago started as some itching but now has grown to a rash that is all over the body legs, arms, stomach, back, neck, head, ears, buttocks, groin.as well as an almost constant itching which gets so bad I can draw blood.it has gotten so bad I have lost sleep because of the itching .
Since it began I've been trying to figure out what may have caused this and as far as I've determined nothing new has changed in house since then and I haven't traveled out of the country. I have seen a doctor and a dermatologist and so far nothing is figured out, I've had different tests to rule out different things, ruled out HIV,as well as nothing autoimmune causing this, had a biopsy done and all he said was an elevated white blood cell count in regards to an allergy (which I told the dermatologist duh!) I have been given ointments to try on skin, scalp ,and groin.as well as an insecticide 2 doses to kill any possible little critters, which didn't work....now dermatologist said he's going to experiment with different things, makes me think he don't know what the cause or problem is and is just looking to cost me money.....
I'm really at the end of the rope with this and it has exhausted me both emotionally and physically as I also lose sleep because of this .....need help and advice please

It sounds like an allergic reaction to me. My sister is allergic to sulpha drugs. We didn’t know until she had a yeast infection in her 3rd trimester. Doctors don’t like to give vaginal meds during the 3rd trimester, in case the baby comes early so they prescribed sulpha drugs. She broke out in hives from head to toe. Of course, the drugs she could take to relieve the itching and pain were very limited due to her pregnancy. It was a baaaad couple weeks.

So sorry to hear this. I'm actually going through something very similar. I took something to eliminate fungal infection as well in case that was the culprit but no change either. I started to keep a food diary for when I see allergist and I'm going to do a 3 day min to minute of what I do, where I go in the house to see if that comes up with clues. And my next plan is to go to an airbnb to see if there is a difference if I leave our house. I will continue to follow you to see if you find out what the trigger(s) are. Hang in there.

And I'm getting a new jar of vaseline because I did scoop it out a few times rather than using my little plastic spoons so perhaps I have gathered some bacteria in the jar that I'm spreading on my skin.

I experienced something similar in terms of symptoms that turned out to be a photo allergic reaction to a topical anti-fungal that caused something called a type IV allergic reaction after exposure to the sun. It resolved only after discontinuing the topical along with steroid treatment. A dermatologist helped immensely, but the first one I saw didn’t recognize the pattern. I don’t know what’s happening in your case, but three cheers for finding a skilled dermatologist in the process.
