Severe itching, no rash

Posted by kimmiesue @kimmiesue, Jun 7, 2025

I have been itching all over my body for the past several weeks, with no rash. At first I thought it might be fungal as I had just finished a round of antibiotics for a sinus infection. At first it was mainly limited to my armpits and what most likely would be considered "jock itch" if I was male. In my desperation I used a jock itch spray on both areas. No help and it made my armpits develop a red painful rash. Zyrtec doesn't help. I found a Cerave cream for itchy skin, but the only thing it did was moisturize. I found a spray with hypochlorus acid which seemed to help at first, but the itch came back with a vengeance. I have switched to hypoallergenic deodorant and free and clear laundry detergent. This is so itchy that it almost brings me to tears at times. It seems worse at night, but it's the weekend now and I've noticed daytime itching as well. I'm scheduling an appt. with my GP who is unfortunately on vacation next week. I'm at my wit's end on how to stop the itch. Googling "itching without rash" brings up some scary things, but I do have a tendency to catastrophize šŸ™‚

Hi there I just recently experienced this…I had taken vacay to Hawaii and thought I brought home remnants from there but the itching is still there at times I’ve done some research and this is first I’ve heard of supplements causing it, but I found taking lower temp water bath with sprinkles of baking soda helps tremendously…I’ve got scars on my legs due to the itching it was beyond control…the baking soda is supposed to repair our skin barrier to allow moisture or something like that…idk but it seems to be working for me…I hope it can help you.

I’ve had a similar problem for many years and thought it was an allergy to something. Changed everything I use and made no difference so I started researching myself and narrowed it down to neuropathic itch. There seem to be so many things that can cause itching and not many answers. Nothing really helps me. I’m trying some natural remedies at the moment so I’ll see what happens.

One of the most common causes of body itching without a rash is washing your entire body with soap in a ā€œhotā€ shower. This may not be your problem but something to consider.
It’s not necessary to use soap all over your body under normal circumstances . Also warm instead of hot showers. Certainly in areas of high perspiration and anus are appropriate. Soaping in a hot shower washes away all of the natural body oils potentially leading to dry skin and itching.
