Severe drug reaction to Eliquest
I was on the generic apixaban for 2 months and side effects continued to climb! To start with I had joint pain, then vision changes, then nausea, vomiting, fever! To begin with i thought it was covid or flu but it would improve for a few days and then I would start all over with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and weakness. It got to the point that I couldn't hardly get out of bed, couldn't eat and lost 13 lbs. I felt like I was dying. I visited 2 urgent care centers and 2 hospitals. They would treat me for nausea and that was about it! None of them including a 2 day stay in a hospital with a request that i stay another day bc my heart, kidney and liver enzymes were wacko and my CRP was 85 with less than 5 being normal! Finally I decided to quit Eliquest and go back on coumadin. I am slowly getting back on my feet and regaining mystrength. My stomach is still queezy but I am able to keep food down now. So my warning is that Eliquest can be dangerous to some people! Its very expensive, can cause a plethora of side effects yet doctors love it.... One guess being that it doesn't have to be monitored like coumadin and sometimes doctors are steered by drug companies.

for 2026 Eliquis is going down in price (if 65 & up), don't know about under 65 market,, Canada has cheaper prices. Have many clients on Eliquis and heard about nasty side effects from them, check with your doc to see if you must be on it. Research alternatives

3 ReactionsI’m assuming it would be difficult now to get Eliquis from Canada or anywhere else for a lower price because of all the tariffs going on.
Yes, I fully agree that it is very very expensive with my RX insurance. I had to come up with a $600 deductible first before they would even start paying part of the cost in my cost is still very high every month. It’s almost $150.

1 ReactionOne of the blogs quotes an article from Australia, but I cannot access. I'm celebrating a year since I had a saddle pulmonary embolism and maybe six months off Eliquis. And not sure how long it will take for the Eliquis side effects to be recognized and accepted. It does its job beautifully evidently for most people. Somewhere there must be a clue as to what the difference is in those of us who are not the "most". Age? I'm not sure that can be considered as a factor since the path to being given it is a medical condition that happens in older age. The only comment from one person that applies to me was hyper-flexibility. But I do think there is something in our tissue that is different. What? I don't know. For sure certain if I can figure out what helps, I'll let you know. I'm trying taking lysine twice a day. Going to a Restore and Integrate physical therapist that is helping with balance and breathing issues. and simply being stubborn and trying to figure out how to get back to where I was or maybe close to.
