Severe Constipation

Posted by klk464 @klk464, Feb 28, 2018

I have had severe constipation for a long time. I drink lots of water and have had almost every test possible done and tried many prescription medications. These medications work for a little bit then stop. I currently take 3 docusate in morning and at night I will take 2 senna/docusate. I still dont have a daily BM. So i get bloated crampy and back pain from this.

I was told I could go to the Mayo Clinic as they may have ideas for me because they are out of options for me here.

Anyone else suffer from this?

Hello John, thank you for your response. Yes I do take Benefiber and it does help a bit. And yes I know that I should be drinking more water, I sometimes forget to but plain water sucks....lol
So I do make cucumber and lemon water when I can and have that throughout the day.
I have questioned my doctors about the long term safety of the Orvilax and have been assured its fine.
Thank you for the links and I will check them out.
Stay safe.

Just came across this post and looked to buy Orvilax for my severe constipation. I had never heard of it - but can't find it anywhere online. Does it go by other names? Thanks

I have suffered from this for long time and it’s just getting worse as time goes on. I found through research that 3/4 c Miralax everyday plus mixing Organic 2 tsp Psyllium Husks and 1 tsp Yerbe Prima Fiber powder with 2 heaping T unsweet applesauce and eating it at bedtime. In early am take one Colon Support capsule (Amazon) and 1 Senacot tablet. By 8 or 9 pm you should have had a BM. If not there is Bowel Activator capsules on Amazon. Or take 1 (not 2) Ducolax pills. Hope this wks for you.

Hello,
What I'm going to advise may sound bonkers but it absolutely worked for me. Due to your long history of constipation and all of the things you have tried to fix it-- you likely have an issue with maintaining an appropriate amount of magnesium in your body. If you're eating healthy and drinking lots of water and are still stopped up--- its likely this. There are several types of magnesium so if you're already taking some, chances are you're not taking the right type. Hop onto Amazon and order "Triple Magnesium Complex" by "Nature Craft". Start taking 3 a day every morning and I guarantee that you will be as right as rain! You likely have a mineral deficiency issue so bulking up on fiber won't offer you a long-term fix. Wishing you all the best!

Google Coffee and constipation.
Article by Cleveland clinic.
Works for me.

Be careful with Psyllium Husk, it had the opposite of the intended effect on me, which could make your issue worse.

Some of us have slow digestion for reasons like hypothyroid and scar tissue from abdominal surgeries or endometriosis. Unless you have ever seen an opened abdomen with scar tissue you wouldn’t understand why the peristalsis is inhibited. It makes it stiff and can greatly inhibit the movement needed to propel your poop down the intestines during the normal digestive process. Proper working has its reasons. Also anything you try daily unless occasionally can also hurt you in the long run. Watch for dehydration and also you must consider how your body absorbs nutrients. There is so much to consider. You can have some of if your intestines surgically removed but it’s dangerous and you may wind up with a colostomy. Unless you’ve worked in surgery or are surgeon you have no clue about this. Then there are kinks and diseased parts that may have become unfunctional for whatever reason. And.. IBS Diagnosis because no one knows the cause of your constipation but Gid! All said some of us have multiple strikes against us and thus either get our colon removed or have to use multiple nonprescription and prescription and the usual things like diet, exercise and water. I have to take magnesium, miralax and Linzess and eat pristine and I am active and drink so much water. I have had my labs checked many times and my Magnesium level is great so that debunks the low mag level. Be careful not to overdose on it also! I still take Mag cause it does help and I do monitor my electrolyte levels about every 3-6 months. It’s a struggle to keep from having surgery from a complete obstruction but it’s worth it. Mag supplements can help some but still with high doses get a GP to check your labs and look up symptoms of overdose even those your labs may be OK and your having BM’s.

My doctor prescribed Linzess and when I went to my pharmacy to pick it up, the cost would have been $515.00!! I'm now back to trying other remedies.

Thanks so much for letting me know about the plan 340B. I've never heard of it, but will ask our pharmacist if he has that one or a similar plan.
