Adults On The Autism Spectrum

Posted by Mamacita, Alumna Mentor @mamacita, Apr 29, 2018

Maybe you were really shy as a child. Perhaps you took home a huge stack of books from the school library, read them, and returned them the next day. Or did your best friend find you crying in your closet, unable to answer the question "Why?" At any rate, your life could be traced to the Self-Help section of the local bookstore. Unfortunately, most of the books were not much help. ADHD seemed to fit, at times. Your shrink said you might be Bi-Polar, although she wasn't really certain. All you knew was that you rarely fit in, anywhere. One day at work, it hit you square in the face: I don't speak these people's language! Really, it was like you were all playing this game, and everyone knew the rules but you. You couldn't tell a joke, and you never "got" any joke your co-worker tried to tell you. People started getting annoyed with you, because you had a memory like a steel trap. They didn't appreciate it when you called them on the carpet. Who knew? This was my life, and worse. I finally aced several tests that pointed me to the answer to my questions. The Autism Spectrum. Guess what? Little kids with Autism grow up to be Adults with Autism. Diagnosed late in life? This is the place for you!

I am okay it took me 5 weeks to really get over it and I am currently staring down a microscope playing id the cancer and cancer cells and giving sad news to doctors and parents sigh .hardest part of my job and also telling both specialists and families its incurable .I have ben loved and cuddled spoodles and been hassled by neurotypicals whom don't give a flying fuck about being disabled neurodiversity and autistic. They are better than we autistics and love and so sad which is draining and listening to American politics and huge groans in Australia that your current president is starting his run for re election November 2020 .its going to be so much news in Australia and we will be drowning from it .I am a little frazzled and tired and emotionally drained and life rolls on .my sisters breast cancer has returned but she is a naturopath and guru in tm so she is anti chemotherapy and her brother whom works in oncology has a completely different opinion.She is my last sister and eldest sister so brother can be ignored and put down sigh sigh

@sirgalahad

So sorry to hear you have been so ill. There is a stain of viral pneumonia going around here in Michigan as well. People tend to be sick for weeks at a time.

I hope you are regaining strength. It is so good to have you back on Connect!

@sirgalahad I so appreciate your sensitivity, you make the world a better place. I groan as I think about American politics as well. I'm sorry that all of you in Australia have to bear the burden as well.

However, on Connect we advise not to take sides on politics or religion so we will have to leave it at that and bear the burden together.

@sirgalahad Please be gentle on yourself. Dealing like you do with stressful news can't be good on your system over the long haul.
