Sending imaging to Mayo

Posted by cefh @cefh, Nov 22, 2023

What's the best way to get imaging to Mayo? I've been chasing my tail trying to figure out the best route. None of my doctors will send any imaging only the reports. I've filled out an ROI that Mayo told me send to the imaging centers themselves. This just seems like so much extra hassle and I'm not understanding why it's so difficult?! I've had many imaging studies over the past two years.

Thanks for any input!

@cefh I’ve had mammograms sent directly to Mayo Clinic from the local hospital. These were digital files so I was told they are easy to send. On the other hand the orthopedic department refused to do that. They gave me a CD with the image on the CD and when I went to Mayo Clinic I handed this to the Orthopedics dept.

I don’t know why it’s so difficult to get these images sent. I do know that in my case the Mayo physicians wanted the actual images so that their radiologists could review the images and make their own determination.

Helen thank you for your reply! They sure do make it difficult! It should be such any easy process sigh!

My experience with getting local scans and labs to my Mayo team in Rochester has been inconsistent or not-at-all. I now go to the records dept and sign a release (although Mayo is on my approved paperwork) and then I wait and watch as it is faxed and received by Mayo. On a couple occasions, Mayo had to make a direct request.
It is an extra step, but it is working for me.

@cefh I should add that I contacted the Records department at my local hospital. I talked with a very helpful woman who followed through on my request. That doesn’t happen very often. I then contacted Mayo Clinic a few days later to make sure the imaging records had arrived. And indeed they did.

As I wrote in other cases I’ve had to bring a physical copy, myself, to Mayo Clinic. What a hassle!

I recently started health care at Bellin Health. Bellin has opened a local office where I can get some health care. Because Bellin and Mayo both use MyChart I clicked on the link that allows sharing between the two. What a relief!

I have had the same problem! Here’s what worked for me:
1 - Upon your request, Mayo can pull imaging directly from radiology groups that share a common system. I called Mayo & ran through my list of providers. They knew who they could access & could not. And they pulled some images.
2 - for the remainder, I called my radiology groups & asked for a CD. Painful process , each provider needed a different form completed but they burned the CD while I waited.
3 - I overnighted with tracking the CDs with a cover sheet including patient’s name DOB & Mayo number to Mayo. Then I called to make sure they were received & uploaded.

Hope that helps!
