Self-Employed Caregivers of Spouses/Significant Others

Posted by Christine @christineco03, Aug 30, 2023

Hello Community,
My fiance is currently navigating medulloblastoma for the second time. He is 37 and I am 31. I am really struggling with the thought of returning to work after his surgery but am self-employed, which limits my capacity to take paid time off work. I was just hoping to connect with other caregivers who are trying to balance careers and caregiving. Just wondering how you all are doing and what has felt helpful both emotionally and financially. Thank you all so much for this space.

@christineco03 I’m so sorry that I hadn’t seen your post and welcomed you to Mayo Connect. You’ve definitely come to the right place. I’m so sorry to hear of your situation. It must be so difficult for both of you. Can you tell me a little more about what leaving him home lone means? Is it worry and anxiety or do you provide physical care?
I have found several people who may be able to help. I’ll ask @sherriusher @jannie59 @april1940m to come to the discussion!
What arrangements did you have the first time he had meduloblastoma?
