Searching for another neurosurgeon in Southern California?

Posted by richstein52 @richstein52, 18 hours ago

I am 73 years old. My neurosurgeon offered to do a long fusion (t8-pelvis) but it was so terrifying to me, that I opted for a micro-decompression of -t9-12 and l1-2 which was performed by an orthopedic surgeon I had seen for stenosis 10 years ago. That was four months ago. I have gotten very little relief from that surgery and I now find myself wishing I had gone through the long fusion, so I am now shopping for a neurosurgeon again here in Southern California. I wonder if anyone else has found themselves in that position?

Research surgeons who have completed a spine fellowship!!! This is absolutely necessary and not negotiable. It could be an orthopedic or neurosurgeon but the fellowship ensures they have had extensive experience training in spine…..Look into those that are in North American Spine Society and other affiliated organizations. I worked as a nurse in spine surgery for 20 years. It is recommended to get more than one opinion. The robotics that are used now for this type of surgery is a premium and labds great results. Look for a physician who is versed in that as well. Good lick. Ask me any questions you may have and i will do my best.

Thanks for the response!
The surgeon I'm going to see indeed has a couple of fellowships. He is co- director of Cedars-Sinai Spine Center in Los angeles and considered a leader rather than general spine surgeon.
So he might be a good fit. Still concerned about long fusion at my age however.
