Scoliosis - Introduce yourself and meet others

Let's talk about living with scoliosis.
As a community moderator of the Bones, Joints & Muscles and Spine Health groups, I've noticed several members talking about scoliosis, but those discussions were scattered throughout the community. I thought I would start this discussion to bring us all together in one place.

Get comfortable in your favorite spot, grab a beverage of your choice, and let's chat. Why not start by introducing yourself?

@wisco50 I hope this was sent to me. Iowa is our home state and we are here. We lived in Seattle area for 11 years, then San Diego for 5 years and then back to Iowa. We were on the west coast for 20 years. I miss Bellevue, where we lived last. I loved living in Seattle, but it was time to come home.

I actually was asking “jackl” what legalizing marijuana has “done” to the four states mentioned and if the writer had lived in each of those four states so knew the “results” from personal experience. I guess I didn’t make it clear, sorry. My roommate from nursing school grew up in WA Tri Cities area and has lived in Seattle area since 1972. They bought their first house in 1973 and still live in it on Mercer Island. One of their daughter’s lives nearby with her family.

Sorry friend! Life was catching up with me. Yes, I’ve lived in Colorado, Oregon, California and very very close to Washington. I find Seattle San Fran and Portland cities that have completely succumbed to drug violence. I am not a believer in the utilization of any drug for escape. Their is one reason to smoke pot. To get high. Same with alcohol, heroin, and all mind altering drugs. Illicit drugs breed illicit actions. I am a proponent of THC and CBD in serious pharmaceutical form for pain management. That’s not yet happening. I guess what I was saying is that legalising pot created an enabler of criminality, poor choices and significant deterioration of moral fiber. I’m not a pot smoker. Never have been. I’m a 63 yo successful man that is now completely physically messed up. I’m not looking to escape. I know that I can steer my mind down positive paths. The more I do that, the easier my mind walks those paths. I’ve survived 40 years of of this pain with that methodology. I do not support h\getting high. It’s about escape and weakness. I do support drug intervention to control pain. Sorry for the long rant. Only my opinion and meaningful only to me.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I mean that sincerely. I know people who enjoy marijuana recreationally like some enjoy a beer or martini. If you need it, you’ve got a problem. I see trying to keep it illegal like a Prohibition era type thing. If a criminal wants it, they’ll get. But seriously, the folks i know or have known don’t smoke and get unpleasant...they are usually at home, watching a movie and eating something yummy. I don’t see it as a gateway drug any more than I view alcohol that way. There’s responsible folk and stupid folk. I am 70, live in Wisconsin and can tell you drunken driving is a very serious problem here that is still not being taken seriously enough! Very sad.

about alcohol???? leads to hundreds of thousand deaths every year...via cars, health issues, violence ( especially abuse and even death to women ) , and the small benefit to society is that it no longer allows very bad people to become crime lords, but compare that to the world damage caused by drug lords and gangs. Enough said. Legalization

Agree. Have said for decades, legalize, tax it. Government makes money from it instead of spending oodles of money to try and control it...sigh. Barroom brawls. Never hear about pot room brawls!

Hi all, I have degenerative scoliosis they tell me. I want to know what effect it can have on the rest of my body? chine in all.

Mine wound up with a kyphosis at T10 right where the scoliosis made a left turn. That fractured it. I had a 45 degree kyphosis crushing my lungs. I’m now fused to T2. That’s S1-T2, C4-5-6.

that's interesting, i need to do more research

@rivergirl8243, the effects scoliosis will have on your body depends on the type and placement of the curvature and its severity.
See more here: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/scoliosis/symptoms-causes/syc-20350716

Can you describe your curvature?

REPLY

it's at the base of my spine
