Salt precipitating out while nebulizing
I needed to purchase a new portable nebulizer and bought the PARI Trek S portable aerosol system. I was startled (snd worried) when I rinsed and then soaked in soapy water a lot of salt had precipitated out onto the mouthpiece and from there onto the bottom of the bowl. There was a little cake if salt in the mouthpiece. Is this normal?

I have the Pari Trek S portable. I have used it daily for several years. I have not noticed this happening,
There can be some mineral build up but seems unusual to be this extreme. Still might be worth doing a vinegar soak and also reach out to the manufacturer to inquire about this issue.
@desertdwellerjh Here's another thought - saline vials come with an expiration date, which I never thought much about, because I thought it was just a marketing issue. But I wonder if the saline actually precipitates (settles out) after a while? I know from looking at well-expired vials (more than 2 years out-of-date) that some of the water has evaporated, I now assume there could be other changes as well.
Have you examined the unopened vials for cloudiness, loss of volume or settling? Have you tried saline from a different package - or maybe you just got a bad batch that needs to be returned to the pharmacy. Also, a caution, if you buy saline on-line, you do not know how it has been stored or handled before you received.

1 Reaction@sueinmn Sue, since I posted me worry, the next 2 vials (from CVS by rx and still in date period) worked fine without salt precipitation. So who knows!? I will report this to CVS. Thank you.

1 ReactionGreat suggestion to be aware that vials expire. I have saline in 3 different strengths and only use the lower doses when I am very hoarse. I will leave them in their boxes and mark the dates for now on.
Thank you!

Regarding the weird build up of the salt, I'm wonderng if the nebulizer is not working? I can't believe the saline vials are so old this would happen.
