Running and high heart beat

Posted by rice @rice, 6 days ago

Hi between June and august I had 4 episodes of AFIB I saw a cardiologist and after a holter test he put me on Eliquis. my problem is I am 74 and a runner when I run my average heart beat is around 160 and it can go up to around 200. I brought this to the attention of my ep team they did another halter test in case I had afib while running the results were no afib but I had SVT as high as 196 she told me as long as I have no pain keep running. Yesterday I for my 6 month follow up I saw my cardiologist’s PA I brought up the running she said as long as I have no pain I should keep running. Should I see another cardiologist for a second opinion my worry would be bringing on a heart attack at that hart rate

all of our bodies work differently. My bp has been around 145/80 for the last 50 years. My pulse is happy at 45-55, sometimes 35. In the past, I ran 8min /mi 5k and biked (leisurely 15 mi.) Now it's swimming 1 mi alt. days.
Docs tried adjusting my numbers with meds to bring me within (normal) limits. My body fought it.
Also, enlarged atrium? no problem. Research and testing (mri, holter, amyloid radiation scan) for left ventricular arrhythmia? no problem.
They are waiting for something disastrous. I have no symptoms, and am just going about my business. How can everyone fit into 120/70 , 60hb/min,, 90 blood sugar, 18.5 bmi? (they get sick and die too).
I didn't question it before, but now , with no symptoms, because of the docs, I am always checking for tightness or pain. They say "Keep swimming. "

you don't service both the same way

I am not telling you what to do, only what I would do,

I would wean off Eliquis, and walk instead of jog. I am 77 yrs young and walk up and down steep hills. Also better on the knees. Many joggers end up with knee problems. And eliminate consuming anything containing caffeine.

Also have Afib (100 mg Metoprolol, 10 mg of Eliquis) and I am an avid exerciser. My HR goes up much higher than it used to with exercise too, though not quite as high as yours (150’s). My docs also say exercise can only help so not to worry. I’ve also been told that Apple Watch really can’t detect an accurate HR with Afib because of the variability of Afib rhythm. Not sure how true this is? Good luck! I love to run/jog too!
