@jill55 Are you saying you have been diagnosed with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, or are wondering whether you have it? Could you please explain what is going on with your health so we can better answer you?
I was diagnosed with RMSF in 2018 and never treated. My doctor refused to treat me and refused to refer me to an infectious disease doctor. I am having trouble with numerous medical issues i.e. falling, sweating, intense pain ... and don't know how to get a referral. I have had every test imaginable (MRI, CT scan, sonogram, bloodwork) and all have come back negative. How do I get a referrall to an infectious doctor who specializes in RMSF?
Wow, did the doctor explain why he refused to treat you at the time? Are you still seeing the same doctor? Who is ordering and looking at all the tests you are having done now? Will they refer you to an ID doc?
This process can be complicated depending on the kind of insurance you have - some plans allow patients to self-refer, others do not, still others require all referrals to go through your primary or preferred provider. But if the RMSF is in your medical records, someone should be able to get you the help you need.
The doctor that I was seeing at the time of my diagnosis just kept saying "you don't need treatment" with no other explanation. When I persisted, she sent me to a psychiatrist. I changed doctors after and since have been through five doctors (not my doing),
Your orginal doctor has records of why he diagnosed you with RMSF. You have a right to those records showing this diagnosis and the basis for it. You cannot accept "you don't need treatment". I accepted my dermatolgist telling me I had eczema and to "stop washing my hands" and if my rash came back put on a stopical steroid. I suffered along for 10 years that way. I hadn't realized there was testing which could identify my eczema triggers and give me a name for my type of eczema.
You have been to 5 other doctors, did they agree with that diagnosis?
I understand the frustration of have symptom's that doctors can't identify or know what's causing it. In my case it was confusing because I had multiple issues from different conditions. Also in certain diseases there are variations adding to the difficulty in identification.
You're on the right track asking bloggers to help you.
Keep up your blogging. I learned much from fellow sufferers.
Be specifc in you seach, list your specific symtom's on one discussion without mentioning RMSF
Read responses as to what they think it might be, this could give you fresh ideas as to the cause.
You can also start a discussion asking those with RMSF to share what their symtom's were and tests they had that led to their diagnosis.
Mayo is just one of hundred's of medical blogging site, there is Inspire, Earthclinic, Facebook and so on. Don't limit youself to one site.
Today my multiple chronic issues are all regressed. I am symptom free, mind you not cured. Yes need to find good doctor's, take charge and self educate yourself, have a hopeful attitude, get outside to feel the power and vitality of the earth and give prayers of gratitute to a higher power for the blessing of life.
I got up one morning in 2018 and looked at my online medical chart. It said, "new diagnosis; Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever". My doctor refused to treat me so I called the department of health who confirmed that my case was reported to the CDC as required.
I have tested positive for RMSF from 2 different Dr’s
One test done July 4 and Sept of this year.
