Risedronate for osteoporosis
Do any of you take Risedronate 150mg per month for osteoporosis?
I don't hear much about it here.

hi mmagner46, its true that risedronate is not as often used or spoken of on this site. Risedronate is the generic for Actonel and Atelvia. Ridedronate has less affinity for the bone than alendronate (Fosamax) or zoledronate (Reclast, Zometa). zoledronate > alendronate > ibandronate = risedronate > etidronate
You might find more under alendronate https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/?search=alendronate
I did for about 1 1/2 years. I started having severe vomiting and chills the night/morning after I took it. Now I'm trying to figure out the next step. I'm 82 and lost all my estrogen when I was 42 and was undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer.
thank you
so sorry to hear that. I have no side effects but was curious about lack of any discussion
I do. I was switched to Risedronate Sodium 150 mg monthly after three years of annual Reclast infusions. I was not having side effects from the Reclast but my new Osteoporosis NP was concerned about Reclast's greater possibility of causing kidney damage so she suggested the switch. I've been on Risedronate Sodium for about 2 years with no side effects and even saw improved bone density at my last DEXA scan.
Is that the delayed release that you can take with food?
The version I take must be taken on an empty stomach and an hour before taking my thyroid meds (which also must be taken on an empty stomach) - then I wait a half-hour before eating breakfast. I take it with lots of water and continue to drink water during that first hour. So far, I have not had any problems with this, other than it's a nuisance to wait an hour and a half before eating LOL!
Yes, I take first thing in the morning with lots of water 1/2 hour before breakfast. Medication says not to lie down after taking for at least 1/2 hour.
No, take it upon waking and don't lie down for at least 1/2 hour. Then breakfast if you wish
I have been on Risedronate for two years. My spine dexascan showed improvement. (My hip got worse, but that is likely because I had pelvic radiation.)
The monthly pill is easy! I take it with lots of water and remain upright for at least an hour. (The directions say 30min but I don’t want to take chances.)
