Riding bicycle with BPH
Before I ask my urologist, I’m looking for general info and tips from the community about riding a bicycle while being treated for BPH. I’m 73 and doing well with my combined therapy of Tamsulosin and Finasteride. They’re working together to keep my BPH symptoms under control, no issues.
That said, when I was diagnosed with BPH two years ago and started treatment, I stopped riding my bike, and I miss it. I walk for exercise but want to supplement that with “some” bike riding. I bought a padded seat and will seek a bike shop’s help with bike adjustment as needed. I’m just wondering if I should or should not ride my bike, given my BPH and any suggestions you may have for me. I need to feel confident it’s ok to resume my bike riding. I appreciate your feedback.

I've had BPH for 20 years and rode a motorcycle the whole time. I had HoLEP January 2025. Still riding the motorcycle and I'm 82 now. Just don't ride the bike for 3 days before having a PSA test. If you ride before a test it could raise your numbers.
I've had BPH for a number of years. Am 72 and an avid cyclist for over 25 years. I ride at least 4 times a week, 20 miles a trip. Urologist is fine with. I do stop riding a week prior to any PSA test. I do take Tamsulosin and Dutasteride.
I am 79. I was diagnosed with BPH nearly 20 years ago, with high PSA numbers and two negative biopsies during that time. I have been an avid bicycle rider all my adult life. BPH didn’t affect that, especially by using a seat with just a little padding and open space for prostate area, as so many seats for road bikes have. However, 14 months ago, I had Prostate Artery Embolization with simply extraordinary results—very low PSA, no more drugs, no more than one wake up at night to pee, no more urgency or concern about location of nearest toilet when away from home…and all systems work well! Of course, my bike riding continues with no problems, but I am far happier while riding with BPH problems eliminated.
I had Greenlight laser surgery at 48 yrs old. I rode 60-80 miles a week for almost 20 years with no problems.
