Rhabdomyolysis

Posted by paktoledo @paktoledo, Jul 10, 2023

Has anyone had this disorder? Does it return? I had my statin dose cut in half after losing 35 pounds and exercising twice daily. Is there something else I can do?
Thank you,
Pat

Have you talked to your doctor about the risk of it returning? I believe it can; ideally it won't if you can identify the underlying cause (in this case the statin?) and address it.

I could be wrong (I looked into this because my dad had a different condition develop as a side effect of a statin, and it wasn't rhabdo), but I thought I read that statins are usually discontinued because they act on the same receptor if someone experiences rhabdo because it's so dangerous. There are other cholesterol lowering medications that aren't statins that may not have that risk for you.

Although my dad doesn't have rhabdo, but a different statin-induced pain, I can at least tell you from his experience that takes a long time to recover, but he's making progress. He is not taking a statin anymore.

My PCP decreased my statin dose in half a week ago. I am pleased because, I think it could be related!
