Has anyone experienced issue where all of a sudden upon trying to lift arm you get intense pain with inability to move arm at all. Episodes happen occasionally had my RTS in 2019 and this started a few years ago

Wonder if you have scar tissue that’s formed.

I’m only 3 months post-op, but have not experienced anything like this. Hope it’s short-lived

@dmk I have similar pain 7 months post op. Still not healed after therapy for 6 months due to pain. I’m scheduled for a nerve block this week. I have pain still while dressing and putting on a seatbelt. I hope you find out the problem and can get it corrected! Good luck!!!

Had ct scan wondering if my subacromial joint is issue as there are some pieces of bone. Going back to pt. Surgeon is out of town so he hasn’t seen ct scan yet and have option to go to civilian surgeon that specializes in shoulders. My ROM is awesome and keep up with my pulleys, therabands and 5 lb weights. Still get dry needling and taping which helps. Having said that still better off now then before surgery
Thanks for all your replies. Had a TKR in 2021 and it’s doing awesome

Wondering exactly where they do the dry needling and what is it supposed to accomplish? My surgery was almost 7 months ago . I completed 4 months of pt and continue home exercises, but there is still a good amount of swelling in my upper arm and I have not been able to have complete range of motion and am considering if the swelling is interfering with muscle strengthening.

hi@dmk
I am interested in your PT program. Can you tell me what your routine is? I had a fracture years ago and now also pain in both shoulders. Not terrible pain but I think my ROM could be better.

If your just looking for ROM I used to lay down on my back and used stick or one can use a household dust room or other held it in my hands and raised it above my head and over time I was able to reach overhead to be flat on bed.
Next thing which I have done since RTS 2019 is the theraband pulley over the door and sitting on a chair raising my arm to the side to the front and at 45 degree angle worked up to 4 minutes each way and still do to this day
Strength I worked up to blue band abduction, flexion, isometrics, extension 3x a week now I’m back in therapy and he has decreased to once week for now. Also do 5 lb (I’m limited to that for life) do bicep curls as directed by my therapist
I recommend you might want to return to therapy finding a DPT that sees you each visit. I was lucky to find that and have not been disappointed
Hope this helps
