Resources for Outpatients on the Mayo Jacksonville Campus

Here are the facts of Mayo JAX and surrounding area.

The campus is stand-alone with two hotels on the campus....walking distance to anywhere on the campus... also regular shuttle service.

There is a pharmacy in the Davis Building....the primary building on the campus.

There is a full-service cafeteria in the Davis Building, a full-service restaurant in the Cannaday building as well as a "Grab and go" store. Note: Davis, Mayo, Cannaday and the hospital are all connected as pretty much one facility.... I would strongly suggest you pull the campus map off the Mayo Jax web site.

The clinic sits on the northwest intersection of Butler Blvd (JTB as the locals call it) and San Pablo Road. Get out your Google Maps and explore the area.

Surrounding area (withing 5 miles or less) have every possible retail, grocery, restaurant, you name it. East across the intercoastal to the beaches (East on Butler BLVD) are two major shopping centers with Target, Publix....you name it. Going north on San Pablo at Beach Blvd is Publix and a few restaurants. There is a Walmart a little further out. Going west on Butler one exit, again, Publix, restaurants retail and more. Go about 6 miles west on Butler and you come to St. John's Town Center......giant outdoor retail center (over 100 stores and restaurants).

Uber, Lift, etc can get you anywhere you need to go in less than five miles. Bust out Google Maps and just do a search, it's ALL there.

The campus at JAX is wonderful and walkable. EVERYTHING you will need for your medical experience is on the campus and mostly withing the Davis-Cannaday-Mayo facility.....labs, imaging, surgical,....you name it, it's right there.

Politely make clear to your providers you are traveling from out of town....it helps them navigate scheduling with other providers and associated activities.

Now my usual "admonition". YOU need to be prepared, patient, polite, flexible and cooperative. This is not an "on-demand", facility or system. It is a limited resource of the finest health care anywhere....and with that, not everything will happen as you may hope.....check emotions at the curb at San Pablo as you enter the campus... The staff there will do everything "practical" to accommodate the needs as determined by your providers. it will serve you well. Normally schedules run on time, BUT a late appointment is better than no appointment as provider do not rush and give each and every patient the time needed. Conversely, DO NOT BE LATE to any of your pre-scheduled appointments.....be there early....the system usually has you arrive at least 15 minutes before but do not let that become your "slide in time"...... If appointments become "stacked"...like labs and imaging, it's all in the system and the "next stop" can see when you finish at your last stop...and thus you keep your slot.... just don't you be the maker of "late" as they will turn you away if more than a few minutes late....we have seen it more than once.

My wife and I have been doing "Mayo Jax" for over 36 years from near and far...literally back to when the Jax campus was more of a swamp with one building, in the middle of "nowhere" and you had to travel miles to other locations for services.

With all this said, if you go "prepared.....etc", you will have a medical experience like no other.

A note to other readers. We travel in our motorcoach and always plan a week and our providers know this. We are flexible and in one recent visit, a surgical procedure was needed but the surgeon was going on vacation the day after the consult.....my answer was "when will you be back, we will be here". Ten days later I was on his table and a few days after that, on our way..... For the RV thing, there is a great city RV park (Hanna Park) about nine miles away from the clinic.... Many Mayo visitors there during the week. There is also "day parking" for RVs on the campus....no overnight.....thought we "Nag" our docs every time we are there about RV parking on the campus....but, it's the price we pay....
