Residue after bowel movement

Does anyone have residue left after a bowel movement of soft stool? I use up almost a quarter roll of toilet paper to clean. I also wear a thin sanitary napkin.

Depends. Haha. Really, it depends on my diet. I use ( at home) baby wipes. You can’t flush them. On vacation or out of house I carry one or two feminine wipes which are prepackaged individually. Better safe than sorry.

I read an interesting theory about why that happens. Something about how the skin tissue down there reacts a certain way to dry toilet paper. It closes up. It won’t close to moist. That’s why using moist towelette works best. I have no idea if that’s true, but I started using moist and it seems to work.

I just went thru colorectal surgery. Dr said use cotton sheets, no fragrance. A little water and dab don't wipe. My husband got me a bidet seat from home depot and I was shocked, but cleaner with no dust. There is a membrane covering mucosa in rectum. I used too many baby wipes and damaged my mucosa. That worked for me but dr said only can use shower after pooping and little dabbing. I got handheld shower nozzle for shower. If you can't get more formed poop please talk to dr. Could be something causing endless pooping. Good luck.

Yes, it turns out it was a result of my pancreatic insufficiency. Once I increased my prescription digestive enzymes, this stopped. I take Viokace - one tablet with a snack, two with meals (one at beginning of a meal, and another one in the middle or right after). Good luck. I know how frustrating this is.

Who figured this out? I’ve been seeing gastroenterologists for over 2 years and this was never mentioned, i have Type 1 diabetes, so my pancreas is shot.

It showed up in a blood test and a stool test. Ask your doctor to run the tests for it. I hope you get an answer soon.

Hi, @nazleer . That is something that we have to deal with often those of us who have had a low anterior resection. The wipes are better than the toilet paper, but even better, as @beracha mentioned, is a bidet you add to your toilet seat. Choose a good one where you can control the force of the spray, even one where you can go from a wide gentle spray to a strong stream that can serve as a sort of enema that attract whatever is left in your rectum out.
Bidets can have a little bit of a learning curve, but they are worth it. It's been a life changer for me with my low anterior resection syndrome.

Just came from a grocery chain here in WNY. Now they are selling “wet toilet paper”. Supposedly flushable. I wouldn’t chance that and do not intend to buy any. New product ( store branded )

Thank you all for the very informative responses. Amazing how many of us suffer in a similar way.

I’m just going to repeat others - buy a bidet seat. Life changing. A few hundred dollars was best money I’ve ever spent - seriously.
