Research on Elevated Heart Rate After Catheter Ablation for Arrhythmia

Posted by gloaming @gloaming, Mar 8 2:51pm

I can't find the discussion, probably buried in a thread, where people were discussing elevated HR after PVI (Pulmonary Vein Isolation). Turns out that, if your new/temporary post-ablation HR is elevated by about 15 BPM or more, you're probably going to do better in the long run for recovery and be free from AF thereafter than among those whose HR is closer to their pre-ablation HR value.

Note that isolation of the vagal ganglia connecting to the pulmonary veins is predictive of better outcomes. This is also done by ablation:

Thanks for sharing this interesting article on elevated HR after ablation. I was part of the discussion on this topic on 1/7/24. I was a year post ablation on Feb 14 this year and still experience a higher HR ranging 79-81. Since I posted in January, my HR has actually come down slightly from the average then of 82. Even though my EP is not concerned and I feel fine, there are times that I have still worried about the increase from what my HR used to be. Reading the article you posted gave me some reassurance that the elevated HR is OK. I have learned a great deal from reading your posts on this site and appreciate the extensive research you have done and shared. Thanks again.

Hey! I'm on the very same park bench as you, 68jwp? 14 February of last year. Feels great to be in NSR all this time.

Yes, I feel very fortunate that my ablation has been successful so far and glad yours has been too. Maybe Valentine's Day was a good choice for both of us.
