Repeated UTI & Yeast infection w/ autonomic neuropathy
I was diagnosed with SFN about 4 months ago, mostly autonomic issues. I've been diagnosed with 2 UTI's and 3 yeast infections since then. This time I had both at the same time, and even after treatment, it still seems to be lingering. Before my diagnosis, it had been years since I had either.
I drink lots of fluid each day (150+ oz) and take cranberry extract daily, so I'm being preventative.
Does anyone else seem to have chronic urinary & yeast issues? I'm wondering whether SFN may have something to do with my body not getting over them.

I had a similar problem to yours. Saw many gynecologists. Finally I was referred to an astute dermatologist who asked me whether there was any asthma in my family or any eczema in the family, to which I responded in the affirmative and whetherI had had any genital surgery. Finally after a skin biopsy she diagnosed me with lichen sclerosis, an autoimmune skin disease. I was put on a steroid ointment to be used several times a week for 3 weeks on and one week off, as well as amitriptyline for pain as an off label use. I also take pregabalin (lyrica) for nerve pain, without any side effects at all. Now My lichen sclerosis is completely under control (no more pain) no more yeast infections, fewer bladder infections which at any rate have a different cause in post menopausal women. I would recommend any women who is struggling with your symptoms of (possibly wrongly diagnosed yeast and or bladder infections) to see a dermatologist who has experience treating lichen sclerosis. Hope this helps all women who are looking for possible answers be at least screened for LS.
Yes, I had a terrible UTI and for the longest time thought it was just a shy bladder. I couldn’t urinate. It was a very slow and weak stream when I could. This went on for more than a year, and then suddenly I was constipated because my bladder was so large. It was blocking my intestines, so I could then do neither at all, and I had to go to emergency room. As soon as I arrived at the hospital, they put a catheter in and extracted a liter and a half out of me. It was a very bad infection, for which I had to stay in the hospital for a week. My small fiber neuropathy diagnosis was in February of 2022, and it has advanced rapidly! I now have autonomic and peripheral, chronic widespread pain everywhere, and 20 other diagnoses, but regarding the UTI’s, self catheterization at home has seemed to prevent further UTIs. God bless you. I hope you’re over it now. It’s the most awful thing to have those kind of problems! I was hallucinating towards the end of mine, and I only had that happen ONCE!

1 ReactionI've taken Azo bladder control, recommended by my urologist. Its a natural supplement from pumpkin seeds. It's a 3 month therapy- 3 pills daily for 1st month, 2 pills daily for 2nd month and 1 pill daily the 3rd month. It helped considerably, even though I have a rectal prolapse which doesn't help my bladder. Kegel excercise has also helped. Check it out.
