AML in remission
Hi Lori, you might remember me I’m the one who had aml and I had a toxic reaction and my oncologist just basically blew me off I was hospitalized and they sent Hospice in to get me started with them. Unfortunately, I wasn’t smart enough to know I didn’t need to do that.. after a few months me and my family realize I need another opinion this was crazy. I was just basically told to my family to send her home. Take her home and let her do what she wants what she wants do what she wants and other words to die so after researching my as my diagnosis of AML, I decided to go to where things happen where things happen good since they specialize in leukemia and AML people come from around the globe to go there and that is to MD Anderson. I’m now nine months after being diagnosed in remission.. that shocked me that my original oncologist didn’t go forward with me and let me go home with no hope. I found out I needed to take care of myself and found the right place for me to go fortunately for me this is worked out like I have seen them only nine months since the original oncologist was with me I just wanted you to know. I just wanted you to know how much better things have worked out for me now I just f found out I was in remission.. My doctor posted to me that my last bone marrow showed no cancer. No no AML. I am in remission. I was more than pleased and somewhat shocked not aware that nine months wasn’t much time yet it happened. Just wanted to give you some good news.. I know I’m in the very beginning and there’s more to do here but yay. I’m happy. I just wanted you to know.and that’s a good idea. I’m just writing something for somebody just a minute.

Good morning, @babshere1. I am quite literally sitting here with tears in my eyes after reading through your reply twice! I wanted to take in every little detail with such pleasure with the victorious finish!
And yes, I do most certainly remember you. I was appalled that your hematologist was ready to throw in the towel on you! I knew in my heart your journey was not at the end and that’s why I recommended being seen at a much larger teaching/research facility. I’m so relieved you took this course of action and were able to get into MDAnderson! This is another testimony as to “Where we go for treatment, does make a difference!”
Thank you so much for sharing your amazing update with us! Frankly, this gives huge inspiration and encouragement to so many other AML patients that may feel there is no hope for them. If you haven’t already, I think it might be nice for your original hematologist to hear how well you’re doing after choosing to take charge of your life instead of following his advice for hospice when clearly your journey was not over!
Would you mind sharing what medications you took for your AML treatment to reach this level of remission? Will you have to do any maintenance chemo as a follow-up?

1 ReactionI don’t have a list of my medications for you but yes there will be be further chemo next weeek for 3 days. I’ll work on getting names of Chemo drugs. Md Anderson has patients in hospital for the early treatments for 4 weeks. I was in hospital in Indianapolis and nurses were fabulous Im getting everything done. It’s their way to watch for any problems with the Chemo you’re having. I had no issues.Yes my current oncologist posted on the my chart from my original hospital say that I was in remission!!

3 Reactions@babshere1 I’m just so happy for you! Seeing the word, Remission…well, it can evoke emotions like no other. You are a trooper and again, you owe this positive outcome to not settling for your original doctor’s dubious referral to hospice!

You has asked me earlier what chemo meds I was on that put me into remission..My daughter wrote the 3 meds down for me, so I will attach a pic of that list…I hope this is helpful.
