Reinfections of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa

@tavrgrad2020 Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a notoriously difficult infection to eradicate, and resistant to many antibiotics. Where were you infected, and how long has it been since the last bout?

The first was (2018) and associated with apparent diverticulitis and diagnosed after ER and admission after blood culture - bacteria had entered the bloodstream requiring 30 + days of IVs of meropenem in hospital and at home. The second was after Mohs surgery for squamous cell on left hand. Culture of the wound determined a second infection .Of interest, after 2020 TAVR at Mayo I take an antibiotic to prevent infections.

Yes, I had UTI, sinus, eye and lung infections last year. A lung sputum showed I had Pseudomonas.. I had to go on IV antibiotic treatment . My white count came down so all thought I was cured. Then early this year On my routine appt with my ENT Dr he examined my sinus and said it looked like it did last year so he did a culture . It came back Pseudomonas and it had colonized . I was 21 days on IV treatment and the Ent Dr took another culture and it came back no growth. Recently, I brought up a sputum from my lung , it went to the lab and again Pseudomonas colonized on the report however no symptoms so my Drs , cardio, pulmonary and PCP said not necessary to treat …so that’s where I am at the moment . My Pulmonologist is having a CT scan done and also an arterial blood gas test done to look at my lungs and to see what the composition of my blood is . E.g. oxygen, carbon dioxide , etc. that will all take place is the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned ! Kay Bastasini

I was treated with Meropenen IV for 30 days for the initial infection. Blood tests post IV were negative. The recurrence post Mohs surgery of a superficial reinfection was treated with multiple antibacterials oral and ointment meds.

Has anyone had Psuedomonas totally eradicated from their system ? Thanks for any information.
I was set up for Remicade infusions for high inflammatory markers . However last month I brought up a sputum from my lungs. It went to the lab immediately and came back as Psuedomonas colonized …however totally no symptoms . Though my pulmonologist is having a chest CT scan done to look at my lungs. Last year I had 4 infections from this bacteria and this year 2 so far and always put on antibiotic IV…which cleared up the infection but not the
Psuedomonas .
Meanwhile my Rhumotologist and I discussed the risks of starting the infusions with this bacteria present and agreed not to take that risk that Remicade could cause infections . So it’s been postponed .
Bottom line, I wonder if there is a way to get rid of this bacteria that has been showing up since mid last year as I would really like to go through with the infusions but for now can’t take the chance ! .
