Refrigerating Tymlos daily.. quick question

Posted by daisylou @daisylou, May 11 2:34pm

Now that temperatures are climbing where I live, I am going to keep my Tymlos pen stored in the fridge ..
Must I first take it out of the fridge for an hour prior to giving myself the injection each day?

I live in Arizona and always keep my Tymlos pen in refrigerator due to temperature above 77 degrees. I’m also interested in other opinions. L

My endocrinologist said to keep mine in refrigerator for not taking full
dose. Said it would last longer.

That sounds right. I'm thinking that I could keep my Tymlos refrigerated to make it last longer (there is always some left over), but the literature says injecting cold Tymlos can sting when injecting. Has that been your experience?? I take the full dose.

REPLY

No, I don’t get a sting when injecting straight from the refrigerator

@stress101, I answered too quickly about hardly any side effects with starting a half dose of Tymlos again. It took a few days, but now I am having dizziness and nausea. I should have gone back to 20 mcg and worked my way up. Please let us know about the kidney stone issue.

Hi. Took me long time to get back to you. My endo had me stop the Tymlos until stone issue resolved. After several back and forth on portal, I am now going to a new urologist for stone to be ok to take Tymlos or not. I don’t see him until July 31st. Not sure if I would feel comfortable having the stone being watched or calcium being screened and taking Tymlos. Know results said it’s not large enough or location to be a problem either. I hate taking the meds too. Guess it’s a wait and see. I’ll
Let you know.
How are you doing? Good I hope.

Good to know. Weird -- the specialty pharmacy I go to warned me against this. But I'll give it a try. Thank you for posing.

I am so glad you are not on Tymlos @stress101 with your kidney stone. It is not recommended even for someone who has had a kidney stone in the past. The same would go for Forteo.

I am still on a half dose of Tymlos and doing alright. I want to get off it, but I am afraid of the options. Both my endos just said that I can take Evenity, Reclast or Prolia. With my sensitivity, I don't like the idea of one of these meds staying in my body for a long time.

My Endo had suggested taking Raloxifene with Tymlos, but my pharmacist was concerned that it might cause blood clots. I have an appointment with a vein specialist to get an opinion on that. I also have an appointment with a functional physician to talk about an bioidentical estrogen patch. At least with these options, I could stop them right away if I had side effects.

Good luck with your urologist appointment. I hope that your kidney stone dissolves on it's own.

I’m like you not knowing what is best. I don’t have many options. I had one Dr at my spine clinic he didn’t think I should take anything for hr didn’t think a 2.9 bone density was bad enough. Go figure. I know I didn’t take anything for 25 years and my deca scan score was a 3.1 then and now 2.9.
What are your score scores and have you seen improvement?
I also feel my endo is not invested in my health issues so will be trying to find another.

My T-score went from -3.0 to -2.0 after just nine months on Tymlos.

I live in Arizona too and I keep it in the refrigerator. We turn the AC up if we’re going to be gone all day and I don’t want to worry about if the house gets too hot, especially in the summer.

That is a great report in nine months. Are you still on it?
