Redundant / Tortuous Colon Colonoscopy Prep Problems

Posted by fuzzywuzzy1969 @fuzzywuzzy1969, Jun 13, 2022

I have a Redundant / Tortuous Colon with Diverticulosis, I am also a Short Bowel Patient. For the past few years when I go in for my Colonoscopy I am told that the prep was incomplete. When I ask what was incomplete he Dr.'s say the pockets of Diverticulosis were not visibly clean. On one Colonoscopy they checked me into the hospital to do the prep and I was given 4 jugs of 4000ml PEG , Nulytely over 48 hours and I was still not clean. Has anyone else had problems with Colonoscopy prep? Recommendations? I will be going in Northwestern Memorial in July for a Double Balloon Colonoscopy, they have also placed me on Miralax 2x day till the day of Prep starts.

Did anyone need tests to map out their colon prior to the colonoscopy with a tortuous colon?

I suffer from this as well, my doctor had me on a clear diet for 2 days. Then 2 laxatives and a gallon of Miralax the first day and then again the 2nd day. I was cleaned out. Due to the transverse colon revealed significantly excessive looping and a redundant colon the procedure was aborted. Having a redundant torturous colon causes problems with a colonoscopy. One of the risks is perforated bowel

We’re they doing the barium enema to map out the colon to use as a map for a colonoscopy?

I am 70 yrs old and just found und out I have a redundant colon after my latest colonoscopy! Prep for colonoscopy has always been terrible for me, and this time was the worst. It took from 9pm until 6:30 am the next morning using Sutab. Needless to say, I was up all night and had bleeding lesions halfway through from all the clean-up. Spent most of the night in tears. Then during the colonoscopy (I was put to sleep) I had an acid reflux event which I aspirated. When I got home I was coughing up a ton and vomiting. My primary care doc did a chest xray and put me on a Z pack a few days later (coughing up gunk), and still coughing up a bit 3 weeks later. Thankfully my colonoscopy only showed some diverticulosis and this tortuous colon thing. Has anyone else had any of this trouble?

Did you have a redundant colon on earlier colonoscopies? I had one reasonably that had to be stopped due to redundancy. We’re they able to finish the colonoscopy L

I have never been told that before! But I also didn’t read the summary of the procedure before because it wasn’t online until now! I may not have been told. I have been told by the dr before that the prep wasn’t complete.
My Dr. said she did finish, but it was “difficult”. The prep was torture for me because I was up all night on the toilet. And by morning I was bleeding and crying in terrible pain from hours of that caustic stuff coming out and cleaning myself. ( Sorry, graphic). I think it’s because when you have a redundant colon it takes longer for everything to process through. My husband had a colonoscopy and was done and in bed asleep by 11 the night before. Not me- never slept AT ALL.
Since I don’t have any polyps, although I do have some diverticulosis, I can’t imagine going through this again. I think I’ll stick with Cologard.
