Recurring white patches on tonsils and throat pain

I've had white patches and severe throat pain a twice in the last 12 months, and feel it coming on again. It lasts about 5 days and by day 3, I'm having difficulty swallowing or talking. Last time, I went to urgent care but nothing popped on my tests (not COVID , strep, etc. ) and I went home with lidocaine. Full list below of the tests, all "not detected" when I was fully inflamed and in pain.

What could be happening? What can I do to prevent it happening again? What can I do if it's really the start of a new cycle to keep it from getting so painful? And besides waiting for it to happen again and trying to book a doctor, what can I do to find out what's happening when I'm not inflamed and in pain?

How terrible for you! That must be very painful and frightening in that it keeps coming back. Have you seen your primary doctor about it? It would be a good idea. Also look up all the medications and supplements that you take and read the side effects of them. It might give you a clue as to what is causing this to happen. If you do find a potential medication that could be causing this to occur don't stop taking it until you see your doctor. Sometimes stopping a medication can be harmful if it isn't done in a certain way.

When I have throat problems I use Listerine, the original flavor not the new sweet ones. They don't work. I gargle with it several times a day. It stings but it does take the pain away and heals my throat. I'm 80 and have used Listerine for 60 years. It works really good for me!

You did have a lot of tests! But at least now you know what isn't causing it.

Prayer also works! God made you and he can fix you! I will say a prayer for you also.
