What helped you recover after radiation?

Posted by pianist3 @pianist3, Nov 20, 2025

Hi! Can anyone out there help with how they recovered after radiation? I’m now cancer free after 20 sessions of radiation. I’m still tired and just not feeling like myself yet. What foods, supplements helped the most during your recovery ❤️‍🩹 after your radiation treatments? Thanks very much! Blessings and I will pray 🙏 for all of us to heal completely. 💐💕🙏

I am now post chemo and radiation for base of tongue spread to lymph nodes cancer. I had 35 sessions.
I am cancer free and very grateful to be here.
However I did and continue to experience side effects.
I am still on a feeding g tube as I am unable to swollow. I can do liquids and most foods however it stays in my throat and I need to drink a lot of fluids to push it down. High risk of choking.
I also developed Lymphedema of the tongue...it is still swollen.
Therefore my speech is distorted.
I suffer from severe dry mouth to me it is worse than not being able to swollow.
That being said a year ago, I was close to death. The treatment saved me with the hand of God's guidance.
I am trying to adjust to the new norm and living my life to the fullest.
I did a very healthy diet and lots if supplements. Such as Immunocal, green tea, Vit B, Zinc, turkey tail mushroom drops to mention a few.
I exercise each day and try to be as helpful to others.
Radiation affects people differently. I hope your experience is not as severe as mine. However we have to live, we have to be joyful and we have to be grateful. Good luck!

@lilypilly How amazing is that!! How very wonderful! My doctor right away told me protein in any form was highly important. I have done slices of ham and some beef (no bread) It's difficult to even want to eat, let along figure out what. I've started doing shakes with bananas and berries, while I also eat a raisin nut mix (I get at Trader Joes) for some fiber. It is easier right now for me to drink than eat, though I do include eggs and a bit of cheese. I would like to try the mushroom teas, but need to put that by my doctor. I add bone broth powder to my coffee each morning. I've tried several, and finally landed on one I love. Someone will have to tell me if I can mention the brand. 💕
