Has anyone done well after doing the Reclast Infusion? I am due to do this before the end of April 2025 Kind of scared with hearing all bad side effects and need to hear good news with Reclast?

I haven’t had it but my dr scheduled me for an infusion few weeks from now. He suggested I transition fro Alendronate. I am getting cold feet and just cancelled my infusion. I am reading too many bad reviews and after my experience with a bad rash from Prolia injection I’m not crazy about infusing

I am 73 and I received my first infusion of Reclast on Mar. 24, 2025. I was tired and achy that night, which I had been told to expect but was fine the next morning. That evening while washing my face I noticed my left eye hurt slightly behind my eyeball. I had never had that feeling before. I did not connect the infusion with this as I had not been told this was a possible but rare side effect; nor had I read that in any of my research. The pain and swelling got worse over the next 3 days. The arthritis center where I had the infusion told me to go to emergency. It was Friday and I called my opthalmologist for an appointment for Mon. Over that weekend, it got much worse, so much so that I went to the emergency on Sunday. I told them that I thought it was from the infusion but the ER doctor decided it was an allergic reaction and prescribed me a antihistamine and a stomach pill, both of which I was already on if they had bothered to read my medications. When I went to the opthalmologist the following day, my left eye was completely swollen shut. I again told him I thought it was a side effect of the infusion. He didn't say it was or wasn't from the infusion but was concerned there might be something else going on, such as a tumor. He directed me to get a CAT scan the following morning. It did not show any mass. I was prescribed 40 mg. Prednisone for 7 days, Prednisolone AC 1% drops-1 drop 2x per day, sodium chloride eye ointment--3x day along with Pantoprazole 40 mg ( in case the steroid upset my stomach). After seeing another eye doctor at Cleveland Clinic, and taking every test for possible infection, they both conceded that my reaction was a response to the infusion. It is now almost 3 weeks out from the infusion and my vision is still adversely affected in the right eye. I have not yet had a follow up with the infusion doctor or the eye doctors, but the eye doctors that I previously saw recommended that I not continue the infusions. I do not plan to.

I am very afraid of Reclast. I have been hearing terrible side effects from Reclast. Ugh. Thank you for your support.

I’m 70 and will be scheduling my third infusion in a month. I’ve only had the 2-3 day mild flu symptoms right after. I tried alendronate for 2 months but it upset my stomach each time it took the pill, I could not continue to take it especially if there was another option.

My eGFR did drop 30 points (79 to 49) after the second infusion but jumped back up to 79 when it was re-checked weeks later. My primary physician said the drop in eGFR might be as much from dehydration as the Reclast. On some of these procedures I drive 3 hours to the facility and I do limit water intake so I don’t have to stop more than once. So it’s possible.

It’s important before and after the infusion to majorly hydrate and take Tylenol the day before and morning of. The infusion center should provide info on what to do based on your situation.

My mother had spinal compressions and was in constant pain. I want to do what I can to prevent that. Two of my three sisters have also taken alendronate and Prolia. I’m afraid my third sister perhaps has not had good medical care as she says no bone issues.

The Reclast Infusion you cancelled? Is that correct? What are you afraid of in particular. I read too many bad side effects from Reclast so I am not sure I can do this and feel safe.

I’ve had several Reclast infusions over the years and never experienced any reactions or problems.

I had my 1st Reclast infusion 9/2024. Hydrated well a few days before, day of hydrated and took Tylenol after infusion and day after. Tired, a bit achy night of infusion, heart burn next day, which resolved. Previously on Fosamax for 9 months, had to stop due to acid reflux. I'll have another infusion in September.

I had a Reclast Infusion 4/1/25 and I have been feeling poorly since and today is 4/13. I got the pain in the left eyeball and thought m head was going to explode the day after infusion. I too saw eye doc and he did not see that I needed steroid drops. The pain finally subsided but it went to back of neck & shoulder . Then it went from there after 3 days into my right jaw where I had teeth removed (I was on Prolia and used oral surgeon one year before). It has subsided after 3 days. I’m better today but still feel crummy. Pain has subsided🤞I am a long term chronic pain patient on pain meds as well. I will tell you I had to use six Tylenol 500 mg each for two days and least two 500 mg since the infusion with normal pain meds. This morning I woke up headache free and yesterday. I’m hoping I can do a little housework starting tomorrow. This will be 12 days in bed mostly for me. I suffered agonizing bone pain with Prolia (4 shots over 2 yrs. Pain started last year so I refused to take. Due to fracture risk they put me on this and I’m reluctant to do it again) Prolia about killed me last year. I couldn’t bend over to pick something off floor and woke up in morning not knowing if I could get up in so much pain. I really thought I was going to die (it was so bad). I couldn’t walk. I missed Christmas and New Years with family. Too much pain. I am hoping to feel better, but I can’t hold my breath. I’ll update in a few days. These drugs are powerful and I wish I had never heard of them. Now I’m stuck because I have spondylitis, severe scoliosis and no space disk in back. Oh and I want to mention my hands hurt so bad I couldn’t cook for several days. It’s been hell for me. Think twice before you do these drugs. It’s a lifetime you have to continue.
