Reclast and Tinnitus

Posted by barjcas @barjcas, Jun 7, 2023

Hello, I had a Reclast infusion and 24 hours later I started with Tinnitus. Has anyone else had the same experience?

My tinnitus certainly has worsened in the last 72 hours since my infusion. I was mentally prepared for the aches and flu-like symptoms, but not this. How long did it take to calm down for you folks?

Update: Acute tinnitus ended about 4 days post infusion. It has now abated to its ‘normal for me’ level.

Since Sept 2022, I am on Tymlos. Suddenly, late Summer 2023, I had a horrible bout of tinititus. I went to ENT who wanted to do more tests and I refused. The tinititus stopped in a couple weeks w/o any treatment. Hope you don't experience it again.

@phronib phew! I am scared of an increase in my tinnitus, which fluctuates anyway. I am so glad yours went back to baseline after a few days!

All medicine has side affects, one never knows if they will have side affects until they have received an Rx. I’m not a believer in a lot of medicine. Remember it’s a chemical. If a person would just stop smoking and drinking alcohol, I think many physical problems would go away.

I don’t believe it is listed as a known side effect, at least my endocrinologist says it isn’t.

I have the same problem. Reclast intensified my tinnitus.. but it’s not a side effect 😳

I was diagnosed with early osteoporosis in November. I started taking Fosamax. I didn’t want to commit to a 1 year infusion without seeing if I had side effects. Long story short, I developed horrible heartburn that finally started to go away after 3 weeks after my last dose. My doc recommended Reclast even though it’s the same medicine as Fosamax. I expressed major concerns. I had the infusion 1/21/24. The day after the infusion, the ringing in my ears was intensified. The day after that, the heartburn returned. My ears ring so loudly that I avoid silence now. When I told my primary care person about the ringing she dismissed it. The heartburn is bad enough that I was prescribed Prilosec for two weeks. I get to take a medicine to treat the side effects of the medicine. I will not get another treatment of any sort. I will treat with calcium and weight lifting and diet. I. Will. Never. Do. This. Again.

This is not a helpful comment. You are assuming anyone with a health problem drinks alcohol or smokes. How dare you make that statement.
