QT prolongation and epilepsy

Posted by minajo @minajo, 3 days ago

My daughter is a 49 yr old nonverbal autistic, epileptic ( first seizure 32 yrs old) She recently was hospitalized 4 different times, total 49 days, had 2 ,9 minute seizures before a volvolus dx and sigmoidectomy done..
While in hospital a qt prolongation seen on two EKG and last week another done by PCP and she's " borderline" , cardiology appt November
I read sometimes a epilepsy diagnosis can be made tho a qt prolongation is the issue? Her bp was 90/40 in his office, went up after hydrating to 100/60..
Anyone ever heard this about the epilepsy being a misdiagnosis if it's actually the heart problem?
She did have a normal echo in 2023

You can have a normal echo with long qt because long qt is an electrical issue and cardiac echos identify structural issues. Long QT is better recognized from stress testing or with a holter monitor. Even a EKG might be normal at rest.
Such luck to have a smart mom.
