Putting fat on with a feeding tube

Posted by jwkelly72 @jwkelly72, Jul 24, 2023

Stage 3 b esophagus cancer and a feeding tube since last October. I battled back from 95 pounds and as dehydrated a a prune .
130 plus at my weight check yesterday. Problem is I can't seem to gain fat with it( I'm hydrated muscle but still look like Mr Cancer. Any success in people with feeding tubes getting fat on their faces, neck, and such ? Maybe its an impossible task but the more fat on me the warmer I am in cool, cold weather. It's weird being out in 70 degree weather-60 in sweaters, fur type caps and such.

My sister had that and she was put on the feeding tube. She gain some weight. After I think 6 months the doctors took it out and now she is losing weight, but trying to gain some back because of drs orders. She use to weigh 160 and got down to 145. Because of her being an elderly the doc says she needs the fat so don’t get under 45. She’s doing her best, but it’s hard for her to swallow and it takes her 2 hours to finish her meals. She has to take little tiny bites. The doctor said it may be like this for the rest of her life. This doesn’t happen to all patients and I’m praying for you that it doesn’t happen. God Bless 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️

Thank you for the prayers and info. I plan on keeping my tube in for life no matter. Between cancer, dysphagia and a TBI I feel it's the best course of action. Back in 1990 right after becoming hemiplegic I had feeding issues(took awhile to feed because I would gag and throw up. Maybe your sister should get feeding tube again to alleviate oral feeding issues. She will have 2 options for feeding and a safety net . Doctors should not have say over our comfort and survival. Talk to your sister about it
