Pulsatile Tinnitus. Anyone else?
I had a TBI in 2016 along with subdural hematoma. The bleed was originally missed on my scan and I went 2.5 months with this brain bleed. When discovered it had pushed my brain over and the entire right side of my head was blood.
Now I have Pulsatile Tinnitus. Anyone else? What should I know? I'm waiting to hear back from Neurology at Mayo.

Only thing I can do to sleep when my pulsating/vibrating tinnitus reeks havoc, I put my head on the side with my hand under my head with my little finger in my ear hole. Somehow it cancels the vibration out. Feels/sounds like a damaged artery that pulsates blood through. Same as a dialysis arm stint vibrates up and down with blood circulation. My brain bleed was massive, it pushed both sides of the brain apart, also had fractures all around my scull, suffered ear and hearing damage also.
@danieltbi wow, you've had a rough road as well. They say (drs.) that this tinnitus is a symptom of a larger problem. Have you discovered yours?
I've had to move interstate because of my girlfriend. She's a narcissist who caused my TBI trauma by attempted murder. The medical system here is so lax that I'm on my own, cannot pursue any medical complications I'm enduring. Don't know what's worse, the TBI, abdominal trauma or the stress.
Dang, sorry man. I hope life loosens up for you soon!

2 ReactionsI have had Tinnitus for many years just in the left ear … 4 years ago I became ill with Pulmonary Hypertension. ….last year the pulsatile part set in and I recorded it on my cell phone for my Cardiologist ….i became deft in the left ear … 3 months ago I was sitting at my kitchen table , the buzzing also came up in my right ear and the Pulsatile part stopped … after a few minutes , the Tinnitus stopped in my right ear ! I have no explanation what happened other than to say I no longer have Pulsatile Tinnitus …..just Tinnitus in the left ear !
I am 85 years old so I have learned to live with it . I do notice one thing, when I get in bed and if I lay my face down on the pillow on the right side , the left ear will pop a bit . Have no answer for that either …
All the best to you !

1 Reaction@marin425 - I'm sorry to hear your brain bleed was missed for 2.5 months. I am really hopeful that a surgeon was able to repair this for you.
Wondering if your doctor has commented on whether the TBI would have any relationship to the pulsatile tinnitus? If so, what did they say about that?
Hi, thank you. My neurologist at the Mayo Clinic isn't certain if there's a relationship. In the next couple of weeks I'm having some scans done and then will have a consult as to where to go from there. The swooshing in my head started about 3-4 weeks ago and I just pushed it aside thinking was just hearing things. However it started to become more loud and frequent so I then reached out to Mayo. From what I've learned, Pulsatile Tinnitus is a symptom of a bigger problem. I hope it's nothing serious. Thank you again for your note!

2 ReactionsI had a concussion also, and my students said that they believe I hit my head twice: on a table and on the ground. Even writing this email I notice many mistakes on spelling that I never had before.
This happened four months ago, and I have all of the post concussion symptoms, but also, a few days after the concussion, I felt pressure in my ear, a gush, and fluid came out for a few days after but not too much. Lately, I’ve been having popping or fluttering in my ear. I have an ear camera, and compared to my left ear, my right ear shows redness inside (that’s the side I hit and the fall also cause a proximal humerus fracture, a rotator cuff tear, a painful hand that can’t make a fist now, and strange numbness on the front of my right foot.
Has this happened to any of you?
