Pulmonologist recommendation NYC

Posted by bklynprof @bklynprof, Apr 21 9:43am

A friend of mine has not been happy with her current pulmonologist and is looking for a new one. She normally sees MD's at Columbia Presbyterian in NYC and would prefer one affiliated with that system. She could also go to Mt. Sinai or NYU. She is also looking for a respiratory therapist to help her to learn how to do lung clearance so finding an MD who is affiliated with a hospital that offers pulmonary therapy would be optimum. I know that NYU and Mt. Sinai both have respiratory therapists, but not sure about Columbia.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Leslie -
I was diagnosed a year ago with bronchectasis and MAC. I made a study of finding the best doctor in New York City as I am fortunate enough to live close by. Dr. Christian Becker at Mt.Sinai is simply the best. I was unhappy at Montefiore (will not name the doctor) as they just wanted to put me on the Big 3 without lifestyle changes or nebulizing. I also saw Dr. David Kamelhar at NYU Langone and he is excellent. I settled on Dr. Christian Becker for a number of reasons, and I can tell you he is the best doctor I have ever seen for anything. Very caring and diligent, takes his time with patients (he spent an hour with me on my first visit)), responds to questions on the patient portal, etc. I can’t recommend him highly enough. Good luck and let us know how you make out!

I am at Yale Winchester Clinic which is excellent but have heard Mt Sinai is also excellent.

Dr Doreen Addrizzo-Harris and Dr Ashwin Basavaraj at NYU Langone.

I see Dr. Addrizzo Harris, however the department including their radiology department, PFT Lab, nutritionist, respiratory therapist and associated specialists (ENT, GI, speech pathologist for swallowing studies) is excellent.

They also sponsor ongoing education for both clinicians and patients.

I am always happy to answer any questions you might have about my experience with NYU Langone.

BE well and enjoy the day,
