Anyone had Proton Beam Therapy for Meningioma?

Has anyone received Proton Therapy for their meningioma? If so, was it successful in reducing the size without surgery? Thank you.

@colom22

Proton Beam disrupts the DNA activity, so the goal of this radiation is to put the tumor in remission. It does not remove it and it does not shrink it is what I understand. I have read that for most meningiomas the first line of treatment is surgery followed by radiation, but that also depends on the location of the tumor. I had surgery twice and then radiation. Hope you do well with whatever option is the best for you.

I understand the anxiousness - but try to relax - knowing that your medical team do this every day and will take care of you. This is what they do and they are good at it!

How are you doing, @jimmye?

I went to Radiology last week and she recommended that we do another MRI asap. I did the MRI Monday, and it has not changed. She said we could monitor it and that there was no Urgency. I asked if Radiology could contact Neurosurgery so they could all be singing out of the same Hymnal. A message was sent on Monday and no reply.
I have called twice. I am very anxious about this because surgery is on 2-14-24. Can you give me any thoughts? Thank you.

I had surgery on 9/13/23 to remove a very large grade 1 left side meningioma. I was very anxious too but everything went very smoothly and they got it all. I had my three month follow-up MRI and everything is healing well. I’ll pray for you and giving you virtual hugs!
