Prolia discontinuation
Hi, due to an osteoporosis diagnosis, I took two injections of Prolia six months apart and due two side effects, I want to come off of it. I do not want to transition to a bisphosphonate or remain on one. How do I take myself off of Prolia safely? I am not getting a straight answer from my doctor.

hi bonbon72, the Amgen doctors say that after one injection you'll be fine quitting. I'm hopeful for you too.
but a little worried. Did you quit after one injection because the bone density result was good or not good enough. Glad you're feeling good. It's Spring
Hi, just joined this group. I want to come off Prolia due to side effects. I've had 5 injections. I'm 63. I've been reading the responses and seems Reclast is the best for rebound fractures but from what I've read it can cause heart issues. I've seen little to no mention of going on Fosamax as a option, unless I missed it? I'm still learning to maneuver through this post. I am thinking about asking my doctor to prescribe the maintenance dose of 35mg of Fosamax . It's difficult to find information to come off Prolia. My immune system has taken a hit and I can no longer take this drug.
lifeisgood4me,
Reclast is the strongest bisphosphonate which is why it is the preferred medication following Prolia. Prolia is the one osteoporosis medication that can leave you worse off than if you'd never taken it.
Many physician don't think Fosamax provides sufficient protection.

Some don't have side effects with Reclast. It's probable that you will; they can be mild. I don' think there is a choice for a follow-up medication
I had a bit of a reaction to the injection and after reading all the side effects I have decided to try alternative
I haven’t had another bone density test yet, not due til the end of the year
Fingers crossed 🤞
Me, too. I'm scheduled for my 6th shot in 2 weeks. Not going to get it due to side effects I have had. I researched and found Dr Doug show on utube. He is very involved and updated on osteoporosis drugs. He recommended anabolic drug if any, coming off Prolia. I'm looking into it now. My resources are so limited where I live.
Doctor don’t know we are all ginny pigs
Waiting for doctor to let me know best way to discontinue
I have watched lots of Dr Doug also look up the Bone guru Dr Keith McCormick who has recently written a book on Bones. It took him 2 years to write with 1200 references. He had multiple fractures at age 40, hence his dedication to bone health. I think his book is available on Amazon and l expect he discusses anabolic versus bisphophonates. Good luck to all of us who took this dreadful drug. I have had 4 injections but l think l will have to have zoledronic acid to counteract the rebound effect. But need to negotiate to have 2g not 4g, then 2g 6 months later, and to have it infused over a longer period of time. Xx
I have checked my research. Dr McCormick says that if your s ores ate - 4 or - 4.1 or - 4.2 you should have an anabolic, which build bones, as anti resorption drugs are not good enough. He says it's like plastering density onto a poor foundation.
Also can you get a TBS, which is a Trabecular score, as with smaller women, the Bone Density can look worse.
He says we must fast before a DEXA scan and have it as early as possible, to get the most accurate reading. I was never told that. X
