Why is eye care so expensive? Medications, procedures, etc. , and why won't Medicare cover most of it?

Thank you for new discussion. Can you expand on what type of eye care that Medicare is failing to pay for.

Also, if you care to share, what type Medicare insurance do you have? Original or a Medicare Advantage Plan.

I know I have cataract surgery in my future it is my understanding that original Medicare pays for for first 80% and my supplemental insurance will cover the remaining 20%.

Mostly medications. They Some (Xiidra, restarts, Tyrvaya) are listed in the formulary but they still cost hundreds a month. Tests are also costly and it depends on if you have them administered by a Neurologist or a eye clinic whether they cover them at all. I have UHC Adv Plan.

Medicare only covers procedures by doctors and not opticians. It's our stupid health care system. Costs vary drastically from one optician to another. Lenses are the big scam. Frames cost pennies to make and can cost up to several hundred dollars. I paid a highly recommended optician over a thousand dollars for 1 pair of progressives. I went to Costco and got 2 pairs for three hundred.
