Prednisone adventure keeps on giving

I've been off prednisone for almost two months, I was on it for 11 months from 1mg to 8 mg back down to nothing. For the last 9 days, I have had an exceptionally shitty cold that I can't shake. I knew vaguely that prednisone impacts the immune system but somehow thought I'd be exempt. I'm not. My doc also recommends that I mask up in public for the next several months as the new flu and viruses swirl around us.

Sorry you’re sick but from what you described Pred had nothing to do with it.

Have you taken flu tests, do you know for sure it is a "cold" and not a sinus infection or some other raspatory problem? I would think that your immune system might be depressed some, so it would make total sense to get checked out to make sure you do not have a treatable problem that left unaddressed could double your problems.

Same position you’re in. Down to 7 mg of P. Started at 10mg in September. Since then I’ve had covid, the flu and now a cold for over 2 weeks. Finally went to the doctors yesterday because I think I have a sinus infection. Now on an antibiotic. Hope it works. I was never sick before I went on P. It definitely lowers your immune system.
Btw, I have had a flu shot. Have you?

Be very careful. I have been on Prednisone for 10 months, down to 7.5 and introducing a biological to replace it. I contracted something, probably the flu and it turned into a very nasty case of pneumonia, which at almost 79 is not a pleasant experience. I repeat, be careful in public.

Good, point, and the biologic Kevzara does weaken your immune system…I do not know abt the other biologics

I thought the prednisone weakens it too. I can’t get below 6 mg after 3 yrpears and I’m afraid to take biologics, even the prednisone they say could be worse.

The biologic IS what let me taper off prednisone!
It’s kind of like a labyrinth…
Terrible road, but we have to try different turns nd curves until we find the path.

I am on Kevzara….started last April at biweekly shots self administered.
November first went to every 3 weeks to see if my bloodwork would improve (low WBC and low neutrophils) which it has , so will stay at 3 wk intervals if no decline in physical issues. 🤞
Note, I have been off prednisone for 6 months.

I am at 3 mg and on schedule to be off completely February 20…., can’t wait to see if it the cause for all my gastric issues. There are days the acid is uncontrollable even with meds. Thankful for kevzara option.
