Pre Visit phone appointment

Posted by mlanguell92 @mlanguell92, Feb 26 10:04am

Hello, I have a pre visit phone appointment Wednesday the 28th with thoracic specialist. I was just wondering how soon they schedule your in person appointments after the pre visit phone appointment. We will be traveling and just wanting to get an idea. I do have this question written in my notes to ask on the phone but I was just seeing if anyone else maybe has an idea

That is a tough one to answer because every case is different. Have you sent all you medical records?

Depending on your situation, may be a week or maybe months depending on urgency, type of service Mayo is going to provide and how busy the department is.

Beside the pre visit appointment, did you check your portal to see if any other appts are scheduled?

Hope your appt on Wed goes well and they are able to help you in a timely matter.

Thank you for the response! It was a referral and I did see they reviewed the scan that was sent over. I haven’t looked at the portal today yet.

It does depend on many of the factors Laurie mentioned. Checking the portal is a good idea because often they’ll schedule or hold appointment times.

You’ll probably have to wait to find out after you have the phone appointment though.

If it helps at all with the uncertainty, in my experience getting scheduled with several different offices, Mayo seems to only open their schedules for a 3 month window of time. If there isn’t anything available, you need to wait until the 10th of the month for the next slate of appointments to open again. At least, that is what I was told by schedulers multiple times, but if your situation has more urgency, I imagine they’d see you sooner.

Thank you for all the information. I did check patient portal and didn’t see any other appointments. I’ll just have to “patiently” wait for Wednesday lol

Good luck! One more day.

I do have one more question. Can I call the appointment line and ask if they could see if I have any future appointments? My HR office is just asking for FMLA purposes

You can always call and ask, but I think they’ll only be able to see what’s officially scheduled, which is also what you should be able to see in your portal.

You’ll probably have to wait until it either all gets scheduled to be able to show proof for FMLA purposes. Or I used FMLA for my original workup at Mayo and provided a letter they sent me that recommended staying for 7-21 days. My PCP filled in the rest. FMLA is a huge pain, at least it is for me. It’s as if the people in my HR department have never been sick or never had to deal with a hospital and expect to just magically have specific dates and magically be able to obtain signed documents from multiple healthcare providers at the drop of a hat… But that’s my own personal rant >_
