Cryotherapy for postnasal drip, chronic rhinitis w/ MAC & bronch
Oh, too much mucus!!!
Before my recent MAC diagnosis, the thought was that my postnasal drip & chronic rhinitis were linked & contributing the mucus caused by Bron..tasis.
My ENT put me on ipratropium bromide because no other nose sprays helped reduce the mucus. A % of patients who respond to ipratropium have and overactive posterior nasal nerve.
My ENT performed cryotherapy and, thank you God, that worked to at least shut off the constant stream of mucus running down the back of my throat.
Just wanted to share in case this helps someone else.

Hello @josey1. Thank you for sharing your experience so that others may benefit from what you have found to be a successful treatment for your symptoms!
How long until your ENT arrived at cryotherapy to treat your symptoms?
Hello @josey1. Did you have any side effects from nasal cryotherapy? I'm concerned about loss of smell/taste.
Glad you found a solution. What did the cryotherapy involve?
I’m also curious about how well this worked (over the long term?), side effects and what the procedure involved. I’ve had post-nasal drip and unable to use nasal sprays because of nose bleeds.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

I noticed your post was in 2022.
Interesting your experience with cryotherapy for post nasal drip and or chronic rhinitis.
I suffer from excessive mucus all day long and it does feel like it is at the back of my throat.
I also would appreicate knowing more if you have the time.
1. Did you have clear mucus that was associated with the post nasal drip and chroinc rhinitis.. OR.. was it foamy, white, bubbly more often than not?
2. How are you doing months after your post?
3. Did you suffer any side effects that you feel the cryotherapy may have brought on?

I emailed the ENT doc who specializes in frontal sinus issues at Penn about this just a couple weeks ago since the local ENT had mentioned it. The reply said based on the cases they’ve seen done, they think patients are better off using the medicated sinus washes. Last year, he had prescribed Monetazone in the sinus rinse bottles for me which is compounded at a local pharmacy.
