Post-surgery symptoms

Had lumbar spinal fusion three weeks ago. Was on 2.5 mg prednisone pre- and post-surgery, now at 2mg. Stopped my leflunomide (Arava) 10 days before surgery, and restarted it immediately after.

Was progressing well until a few days ago when bursitis developed in both hips, knees started aching, and fatigue hit me like a Mack truck.

Hadn’t had a flare in months, so am wondering if this is one, and if the surgery could have precipitated it.

Diagnosed with PMR in January 2024. Started with 20 mg prednisone, tapered through July when a bad flare hit. Back up to 20 mg, added Arava, and Rheumatologist is considering RA.

Any relevant experience out there would be welcome!

Thanks. It is hard for most people to understand what we are experiencing. I had never heard of PMR or GCA until last May….and even then did not get much info about it until I joined this group and bought a book on Amazon on the subject. This forum is so important. Again, thank you for your kind words

Joanne, I too am so deeply affected by your story. You must stay strong for your husband. I am keeping you both in my thoughts. And hope he soon starts finding a positive reason to get out of bed.
